Ok so in your DV timeline where the side bars are gone but not top/bottom, does the picture look the right aspect ratio or is it squashed top to bottom ?
It might be the footage is 16×9 letterboxed (which is 4×3 in ratio)
So to make that look right in an anamorphic timeline uncheck the anamorphic flag on the source. Then strech it top/bottom so that it fills the frame.
That should then look correct in an SD anamorphic timeline.
However to put that into an HD timeline you have to treat it as 4×3 not 16×9 – does that make sense ? So the quality is really going to suffer.

It sunds like you are mixing HD and SD footage in the same timeline.
I suspect the reason that your DV footage looks bordered on all sides is that its sitting in the middle of a 1920×1080 frame and anamorphic hence the stretched look. (Thats fine for DV footage in a normal anamorphic DV timeline)If you want it to fill the HD frame then you have no option but to resize it up to 1920×1080 so its never going to look good.
The only other option is to downres all the XDCam EX and DSLR footage to standard def but thats probably not going to work for you either.Mixing HD and SD is always going to be a compromise of some sort or other.

You can use the log and transfer tool as long as you have the RED plug in to convert the RED ONE R3D files to Quicktime.
However the EPIC is not supported in this way so you will need to use REDCINE X to transcode the EPIC files – of course you can do both RED and EPIC in REDCINE.
Both are on the RED support site.

I too did an experimental install on a slightly modified MacPro 1,1 which is 8 core 2.66 – 10 gigs ram with a Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT card and a Kona 3. Lion 10.7.2
Same 64 bit warning on install but all went ahead fine.
I have only tried importing a few HD clips and making some basic edits but on the face of it – works well, obviously not supported but potentially seems a viable option for those with older hardware.

I think I remember seeing this error connected with certain versions of Avid used with certain versions of Quicktime and them not totally getting along but cant remember which caused issues.
Which version of Avid on which platform do you have and which version of Quicktime are you running ?
Make sure you have not updated one without the other.
You should be able to find out which versions support which with the installation notes of your particular Avid version.

I dont think there us a really simple “at a glance” way of doing this however you can apply colour labels to your clips but you are limited to the 5 colour presets.
I am pretty sure there are no options to display any other info in the timeline other than those that are optional under the track display settings in timeline options.
You can drag all of the clips in the timeline to a bin – just select all and drag. That will give you a list of whats actually in your timeline. You could potentially use that but its not really “at a glance”

I would connect everything as you did previously and do a few tests.
I would guess its possibly not wired correctly although there is pretty much only one use for that lead so perhaps more likely it is faulty.
Or maybe on the day you just had a bad connection somewhere.If you have a small volt meter or some other way of checking circuit continuity you can easily check that the pins of your lead are configured as they should be or perhaps one is shorting out.
Do you have any other equipment that you can plug the mic into without the adapter lead to test it ?
Its just a case of following a process of elimination when diagnosing this kind of thing.
Mic fault ?
Mic XLR lead fault ?
Mic adapter lead fault ?
Camera fault ?
Just some bad connection on the day ?My first bet would be the adapter but work through each if you can and you will get the answer.
The proper way to use a balanced mic with an unbalanced input is to use some kind of balancing device. Otherwise you do get a signal level drop and can get noise and hum induced especially with longer cable runs.

This is actually quite hard to eliminate as you are seeing a beating effect between the different rates of the monitor and camera.
A TV will also likely be different to a computer monitor.The only way to do this is to use a shutter that matches the screen rate.
Usually you would set the shutter to be twice the frame rate (50 @ 24) but when shooting TVs etc experiement with the shutter to try to eliminate the flicker.

Assuming all the connections were good it sounds like you may have a problem with the XLR to Jack cable.
Obviously the Mic has a balanced output but the camera has an unbalanced input.
The correct way to deal with this is to use a balancing transformer which you can get built into a lead.Check out https://www.etslan.com/ – they do a Balanced/Unbalanced DSLR lead with a small balancing transformer built into the XLR connector.
(Bottom right of page)Otherwise the wiring must be
XLR Pin 1 to mini-jack sleeve
XLR pin 2 to mini jack tip and ring
XLR pin 3 to mini-jack sleeve (or to XLR pin 1 with small link in the XLR plug).best wishes
