Just wondering what you are trying to achieve by making the file “stereo”
A single voice in inherently mono in that it comes from a single point and source.
So even if you recorded using a stereo mic what chennel seperation would you be looking for ?

Obviously for 2 voices you might want to pan them slightly to give a feel of spacial seperation or you may need to pan a voice to give an impression of the source of the sound moving.
However both can be achieved with a mono track.

I was trying to think of a time when I had been given a file or recoding from a VO session that was anything other than mono or dual mono but honestly cant.

This error usually but not always happens when people make copies of files but do not retain the original file structure.

Are you working directly from the P2 cards or copies ?

I usually find its best to make copies from the cards onto a media drive, the proviso is make sure you absolutely retain the file structure as the originals and then import from there.

If you made a copy of your project and then opened that copy on a different machine it should not have had any effect on the original copy.

If it is permanently stuck while trying to open it then it does seem that it has become corrupt in some way but may not be connected to what you did.

You have a couple of options though. First check your vault for a back-up copy. Hopefully you have an autosave that represents your finished edit.

If for some reason that is not possible then if you can go back to the FCP 7 machine again with your media, hopefully that project is OK. Use that to export an XML file.

You can then open that XML in FCP 6.

Looks like you should be OK with 6.06 however I have never tried it myself.

Once installed, as long as you have kept the file/folder structure intact you should be able to use the log and transfer tool with the xf100 files.

Yep its true – have done it many times including 2 Lion installs, clean installs are better in any case.

You just need both serials handy.

Why do you need to install the FCP Studio 2 version at all? You should be able to use the ugrade FCP Studio 3 version, which will install on Lion, it will first ask you for the FCP 3 serial number, then it will say thats an upgrade enter the serial from the product you are upgrading from.
Type in your original FCP 2 serial and away you go.

Hope this helps:

4×3 is 720×576 pixels.
16×9 anamorphic is also 720×576 pixels however the image looks tall and thin when viewed that way.
In order to make the anamorphic image appear in the correct ratio there are 2 options.
Either leave the top and bottom as they are and stretch the sides out to 1024×576 (widescreen), which is in effect what happens when you set the anamorphic flag. This is 16×9.
Or
You can leave the sides as they are and squash the top and bottom of the image creating a letterbox, which is what has been done in your case. This formats the picture for 4×3.

Since your footage has been letterboxed then it is now in a 4×3 ratio so in order for it to remain looking correct you do not want any settings to be anamorphic. It is not anamorphic it is letterboxed.

If you want to edit this footage on its own just treat it as 4×3, nothing anamorphic.

If you want to place this into and HD timeline with your DSLR footage then you have some problems as you will have to zoom it considerably and re-stretch it horitontally (back to being anamorphic in effect.)

This will result in a reduction in the quality of the clip but it is unavoidable.

You may find that compressor or mpeg streamclip etc do a slightly better upres job than FCP but broadly its always going to look poor in that scenario.

What is it you actually want to do with this DV footage ?
