    Heya All,

This seems like a re-posting but in my looking through I did not quite find my answer. Let me also say that I was not suppose to be working with a canon xf100 but the rental agency made a screw up and I had no options. So unfortunately I’ve not had time to really check it out before the shoot today. And since I must return the cams tomorrow I’d feel better if I could get it solved(ish) before hand

Ok I have FCP 6.0.6 (debating buying the latest version) but for now that’s what I’ve got. I copied entire folders (ie Contents) to my FW800 western digital drive.

Now, Ideally I’d love to log and transfer but I can not: “does not support media”. Now I hear of a plug in but the only link I found was only a firmware updated for the camera which I don’t need.

Could someone walk me through the steps or if it’s truly not possible without 3rd part software, advise me on what I should do next?

And of course I also got a Xf300… these truly were a quality step up but waaaay out of my knowledge of understanding.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi

I think this is a link for the plug in you need

    https://software.canon-europe.com/software/0040354.asp?model=

Looks like you should be OK with 6.06 however I have never tried it myself.

Once installed, as long as you have kept the file/folder structure intact you should be able to use the log and transfer tool with the xf100 files.

    best wishes

Shane keeps beating my posts by 2 mins while I am typing he is in there – at least we are giving the same advice though.

Clearly got to be fast when he is around 🙂

Sorry. At least we give the same advice…so the OP is sure that we are giving the right advice.

At first I typed that FCP 6 didn’t work with this plugin. But then when I went to the link, I saw that it did indeed work with FCP 6…glad that I was wrong.

Please, no need to apologise – I have used your advice to other posters when looking for answers myself a good few times.
Just made me smile that we both posted identical answers on 2 posts within 30 secs the first one and a couple of mins the 2nd.
Pleasure to be in your company.

Thanks for the link. I’ve downloaded and installed…And it still tells me the “file structure not valid” etc…

Upon Instal I had seen this warning:

warning: clips recorded at 50Mbps/1280×720/25p are not supported By FCP below 7.0.3, please update. etc.

Now, I believe it was recorded (as I was busy recording the audio and not actually working the camera) 50Mbps/1920×1480/25p. I’m an audio engineer (who fiddles with video) but I’m guessing this warning applies to this situation as well?

I’m on Version 6.0.6 & use the Canon plug for Log & Transfer. Have no problems with 720P at 50Mb. Only problems occur when the ORIGINAL camera file structure is not maintained.

    Cams: Z1, EX3, HDX900.

    Heya
Thanks for your response. All I’ve done with the files is copied the entire folder onto my wd 3tb fw800 drive. I don’t know how I could have maintained this more? Are there hidden files maybe? Having used canon avchd files in the past I learned to just drag the entire folder so as to not have issue.

The plug is installed and once I’ve gone to the log and transfer and hit the add folder button I can’t seem to select any of the folders. Tried all layers. Sadly I’m on the train now to returnthe cameras. A bit nervous I’ll lose my material.

    Hallo!

I’m so glad I found this thread!

I am researching low end cameras for a documentary film and the Canon XF100 is nicely priced and within my budget.

I haven’t bought the camera yet, but the Canon sales agents have told me my FCP 6.0.6 on my G5 should be able to work with the footage that comes from the camera.

On a dvinfo thread someone else had the same question, but there was no definitive answer. People said the G5 would be really slow in transcoding the footage, but not how slow. My G5 is all I can afford now, especially if I have to buy the camera.

What I did was I went to a camera shop and shot a few minutes on the Canon XF100. Now I have the footage on my external drive and have tried to ingest into FCP.

I have downloaded the MasterInstaller app, but it doesn’t work on the G5.

Does anyone know if the Canon XF100 can be ingested and transcoded into FCP 6.0.6 on a G5?

    Thank you
