NTFS is a drive formatting standard and nothing to do with video specifically. PAL is 25 FPS not 24. So if you need your movie to be PAL spec it needs to be 25.

If when you change the speed of the clip you also make sure that the ripple sequence box is checked – you should find everything moves down to the correct duration as well as speed.

Odd flickering and black frames on cuts is often a symptom of trying to edit directly with H264 or MP4 files.

I like that too but the current Slingbox, at least the UK models dont have HDMI only composite/component. But there is a brand new just released Slingbox 500, an odd looking twisted case design that does have HDMI in and out. Not available here yet but I think US just has it.

firstly dont edit with mp4 as like H264 files FCP does not like them, transcode to ProRes before you start editing.
Here is how to use the Matte
You need 3 video layers. Layer 1 is your background video. Layer 2 is your matte (the black and white) Layer 3 is the fill or what you want to superimpose.
Once you have your 3 layers select the top layer 3 and right click and select composite mode travel matte luma
That should be it.

OK so when you export you get a file of identical size regardless of the self contained check box being selected or not ? Its not that your reference file is really big.
You say you are trying to export
[Bryan Singer] “a self-contained quicktime reference file” which is obviously a contradiction but I am guessing a typo.
It sounds like everything you are doing is spot on, right codec right settings, rendered etc. If your sequence is not rendered the renders are included in the ref movie which ups the file size but it sounds like you have that covered. Are you working on Multicam sequences ? That ups file size unless you collapse the multicam.
Cant think of anything else that messes with ref movies.
Have you tried any of the standard troubleshooting ?
Often this kind of funky behaviour can be sorted out with a prefs trash. Have you given that a go ?

Cant think of anything else at this point that stops you making a reference movie. Hopefully someone else will chime in with some alternatives.

Oh I see apologies. I meant were you trying to copy from an old system drive by drag and drop into your new applications folder. Sorry I was not so clear.
Ok so you have a full copy of install disks for FCP v7.0 and the correct license key ? In that case you should be OK.
Try posting in the Apple FCP forum. I have a new 2012 MBP running Lion 10.7.5 and FCP7 works perfectly. I installed from scratch without issue or error.
I know several guys there running FCP7 on ML without issue. Ask Shane Ross in that forum as I know he runs the same MBP as me with ML again without issue.
So I know its totally possible. Obviously this assumes no problems with your “hooky” software 🙂
There should be no need to go back to Snow Leopard, I have to confess I don’t know if thats even possible on a 2012 machine.
Once you get it installed don’t forget to do the ProApps update to 7.03 its free and still available from Applebest wishes
