    Hey guys,
I just got the new imac and have found that in FCP 7 between cuts and some movement I am experiencing a flicker or a black frame, like it’s running from a slow drive. I’m not sure why this has only just started happening with the new comp? Or is it something else I have missed?

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

    Hi Jeff

Odd flickering and black frames on cuts is often a symptom of trying to edit directly with H264 or MP4 files.
What format are you editing with ?

    Hi there!
I’m cutting with ProRes. I was working exactly the same before on a slower MAC. Then I plugged the G-Raid drive into the new IMac, installed FCP7 and have these movement flickers. Could it be the monitor?

    thanks!

Hmm so if you are working on a previous project that was fine on the older MAC it does seem unlikely that anything has changed in terms of the media.
I suppose it could potentially be a monitoring thing although I would have thought it was unlikely. Does it always occur in the same place or is it random ?

Have you any other projects you can open and see if it happens there ? Does it only happen on this sequence or do you have any other sequences you can check ?

If you export a section that is displaying the flickering does it show up on the exported file or is that OK ?

Kinda hard to diagnose without seeing it really.

Maybe worth doing the usual prefs trash and permissions repair just to eliminate the basics.

I’ve been experiencing exactly the same problem since upgrading to a new iMac a couple of weeks ago. The flicker is only in FCP7, not in the export. No flicker using the same FCP file on my early 2012 MacBook Pro.
