OS X and FCP 7
Hi all,
I’m having problems installing FCP 7 onto my new Macbook pro which runs OS X – mountain lion (the latest version). I’ve read people suggesting to do a clean install. Is this a clean install of FCP 7? MY fcp 7 was a copy from a friend. Do you think that’ what the issue is? When I try installing, it quits unexpectedly. In the applications folder, there is fcp but when i try opening it, it says it can’t and to check this fcp version is compatible with os x. My friend also used a copy but his computer is five years old and runs snow leopard. Is there a way I can downgrade to snow leopard without significant problems?

If you have the original install disks you should not need to downgrade.
Have you tried the ProApps update to get you to 7.03 ? https://support.apple.com/kb/DL949?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
I am running a 2012 MBP with Lion and FCP7 and that works perfectly but there are many running Mountain Lion without issuebest wishes

Thanks for the response. The problem is I don’t have the original discs. I’m thinking about getting a shop to do a clean install for me but not sure if that’ll work.

Ah so are you just trying to drag the app into the applications folder ? I am pretty sure that wont work. You need the install disks

hmm, sorry not sure what you mean by ‘dragging the app’. I’ve got a copy disc + key number that my friend also used to install it on his and it worked fine – but he was using snow leopard.
I’m also looking into downgrading to snow leopard – but don’t know if that’s possible with a new macbook that came with ML… -
Oh I see apologies. I meant were you trying to copy from an old system drive by drag and drop into your new applications folder. Sorry I was not so clear.
Ok so you have a full copy of install disks for FCP v7.0 and the correct license key ? In that case you should be OK.
Try posting in the Apple FCP forum. I have a new 2012 MBP running Lion 10.7.5 and FCP7 works perfectly. I installed from scratch without issue or error.
I know several guys there running FCP7 on ML without issue. Ask Shane Ross in that forum as I know he runs the same MBP as me with ML again without issue.
So I know its totally possible. Obviously this assumes no problems with your “hooky” software 🙂
There should be no need to go back to Snow Leopard, I have to confess I don’t know if thats even possible on a 2012 machine.
Once you get it installed don’t forget to do the ProApps update to 7.03 its free and still available from Applebest wishes
