Thanks Rob, after I posted I realised that my main issue was trying to adapt the generators in FCPX which is not that easy. I’m dealing with a project that has a lot of bullet point lists, some having to come up on word cues, which as I see it is not possible in FCPx. Way better and easier to just adjust each graphic in motion and export another generator. This way I keep all the files together, don’t have lots of Pro Res files clogging up the system. One thing that does bug me though is that all the FCPx Generators are only NTSC, so I have to change them to PAL in text edit, hello Apple, we don’t all live in the US.

While you can edit native AVHDC files, on my system the video stutters too much so I transcode to ProRes and while in theory you can start editing quickly, in practise you are better of waiting for the files to transcode as things do slow down quite a bit. This background processing is a bit of a furthy in my opinion. Other than that the FS100 and FCPX are not a bad match.

Well looks like I was a bit hasty in believing the timeline zoom bug had been fixed. It’s still there although it seems to be more intermittent.

Fantastic. They have fixed the time line zooming BUG. Maybe my cursing level will start to dwindle a bit now.

Not convinced that it always happens the same very time but seems as if it the third last zoom up on the timeline. When I get some time I will see if this is the case.
As for:
“This problem is not a permanent bug.It is possible to get around it very easily through either quitting and restarting FCP X and if that does not work, simply quit, trash the preferences and re-start. ”
Mark, are you being ironic or are you serious…. What, trash my preference every 2 minutes?
This bug is excruciating, try zooming in to do a fine edit and you jump back to the start of the timeline… zoom out.. zoom in… scrub scrub scrub – lost. Ah, hell restart, repeat repeat.
Avid is starting to look real good.

Hi Simon
Yeah, I can’t begin to tell you how frustrating this is, I really want to believe that FCX is the way to go but…
Anyway maybe we need to do some tests to see if we can work out what’s going on here. It only started with since the upgrade.. what a joke.I think the skimmer has something to do with it, I will do some stuff with the skimmer off and report back.
I’m in Australia so we might have some time delays.
best of luck… sigh

Yep, what you will find is that you can undo stuff that does not matter, but not udo things that count. Maybe a way to save versions is to quit out of the program often…. PS Motion does the same thing, some text changes can’t be undone. It skips over them.

Yes. I know exactly what you mean. It is a total pain to the point where I’m ready to give up with fcx. What a shoddy load of crap. How this rubbish passed muster I don’t know… there is lot’s to like, BUT…
Anyway, over a number of weeks and 80 plus hours of editing I have not found a solution, other than a restart, it may depend on whether you use the keyboard or the mouse to zoom in and out but I can not find a solution. Maybe in 4 months when apple bring out an update they might fix this.

Well I have got a big issue with zooming in on the timeline, particularly if I use the keyboard. I have projects with unattached audio and a music track. On a timeline zoom in the tracks go crazy piling up on each other. It does not put them out of sync, It’s just a visual thing. I’ve found if I use the mouse and the slider It’s mostly works as expected. Very annoying. Not Impressed with this upgrade.

Yes maybe its how it was installed or perhaps it was the fact that I twiddled my thumbs the wrong way on installation.
Issue 1stiil exists, though maybe its a FCPx problem. If I export using Project Settings (ie Prores 444) the first dissolve pops on, export using prores 422 all is OK.. who knows.
Issue 2. Trimming using media – Yep you right. Though I’m glad Apple kept the Media timing “feature” from motion 4.
Issue 3. Fonts now work OK… though it’s good to know that Motion is not so picky about fonts.
Issue 4. I had my shortcuts set to “Final Cut Pro Set” which is not a good idea. Hit the wrong button and weird things start happening.
Now the fact the layout works for you is fine. It does not suit me, but then again why do I need a second monitor anyway and maybe I should see the light and come around to Apples way.
Oh, and a new feature… when I render a project (at full resolution) the first piece of vision is corrupted, If I switch to half resolution all is well… must twiddle my thumbs the other way next time.
Yep, it probably is my system, but I must say I am concerned.
