revert FCPx generator back to motion file
Posted by Neil Mcclure on December 13, 2011 at 3:30 amHi, can anyone tell me how to convert a generator file back to an ordinary motion 5 file. Publishing to fcpx just does not work for me. I would rather export clips

December 13, 2011 at 6:07 amUse the Finder and copy it to a location outside of the Motion Templates folder.
When you open it and “save as” you get the regular save dialogue not the FCP X generator version.
By the looks of it you could skip this step and export any FCP X generator via the Share menu.
That way it’s also available as a proxy in FCPX.

December 13, 2011 at 9:27 pmThanks Rob, after I posted I realised that my main issue was trying to adapt the generators in FCPX which is not that easy. I’m dealing with a project that has a lot of bullet point lists, some having to come up on word cues, which as I see it is not possible in FCPx. Way better and easier to just adjust each graphic in motion and export another generator. This way I keep all the files together, don’t have lots of Pro Res files clogging up the system. One thing that does bug me though is that all the FCPx Generators are only NTSC, so I have to change them to PAL in text edit, hello Apple, we don’t all live in the US.

December 13, 2011 at 11:33 pmNo worries. Are you adapting FCPx titles or generators?
In a PAL project the NTSC titles and generators can be used – FCPX deals in absolute time so a 60 frame intro is remapped to 2 seconds.
I have used a copy of the continuous title (with the kooky 3d effects stripped out) for similar lists.
Stacking anymore than 5 of these on top of each other, so the text appears as the word is spoken, is bit of a drag on my system. What you are doing in motion may be a better option. -

December 14, 2011 at 9:34 pmWhat happens though when you bring these titles into FCPx, does 25 or 30 fps matter then? The only issue I have with timing text to speech is that FCPx lacks a tool to time parts of a shot, I have to Blade clips into chunks to get my timing right, is there a better way.
