As Shane said, you would have to buy the software to get a new serial number. Uninstalling as you suggest would be fine as well – provided of course that the copy of FCP you are uninstalling is legal (and its serial number only used on that one machine). Obviously that doesn’t get you an additional FCP license, but it does let you move the existing license to a new system.

When you right click on a through edit as Larry suggests there is an option for “Join all through edits” in the contextual menu. That will do what you want (with Larry’s caveat about speed changes, etc). However, I think that option was added in FCP 7, which I’m guessing you aren’t using. I don’t believe the feature existed in earlier versions.

Time to do it the hard way…

Working fine here, although I notice if the mouse pointer moves above or below the ruler as I’m dragging, the marker will disappear. It comes back when the mouse returns to the ruler area though, so as long as I don’t release the mouse while outside the ruler, everything is fine.

  • Well, I think I’ve sorted this out, and the issue was that the V1U footage was shot in regular 24p mode, not 24a – thus it came in as 24p with pulldown added up to 29.97, and those extra frames weren’t stripped out on import. So I can either reverse telecine everything, or just edit in a 29.97 timeline.

One question for FCP framerate experts out there – when you put such 24p footage (ie, 24p in a 60i wrapper) into a 23.976 timeline, how does FCP determine how to deinterlace the footage/remove pulldown? Like I said, most of my footage was fine, but definitely not all. And I swear there were clips that would play smoothly (deinterlaced correctly) sometimes, and be jittery (deinterlace incorrect) other times!

    Thanks!
