Brett and Craig are correct here…use QT and export as h264. Change the extension from .mov to .flv and you will be fine. This works for me and I have never had a problem.

There are so many variables you have not really accounted for that have been mentioned. Here is another…when you watch your QT movie are you watching it at High Quality? In QT go to View Movie Properties, select the visual settings tab, then select the video track and then check the High Quality box in the lower right hand corner. You can also use this little utility to batch change the setting:

One possible solution:
Do you have Magic Bullet Colorista? If so, update it and see if the problem goes away. This happened to me, and others, and it fixed the problem (the motion templates in FCP appeared as white screens).

Open a new finder window.
Select the installer disc.
Select the Install Final Cut Pro icon.
At the top of the finder window click on the action pull down window.
Select the line that says “show original”Then select the folder called Packages.
Inside the packages folder you will see the QuickTime MPEG2.pkg installer.

This happened to me just the other day and this is what fixed it:
Put the FCP Installer Disc into your computer and then use the quick look on your file pull down menu to see the contents of the installer. Run the mpeg-2 playback component installer. That should fix the problem.

Right click or control click with the cursor IN the offending gap and you will get the close gap prompt that will close the gap in question…not the one where the playhead is. Have you tried this?
