Thanks Steve. It seems that part of the problem is the Hard drive dumped some data and I lost half the footage. It was looking for it on the network and hard drive, but wouldn’t give me a prompt until I moved the .veg file. Total bummer.

I appreciate all whole trouble shot for me. Great community here!

Here it is. It loads until 31% and then locks up.

I updated my video driver. I can try undoing that, but that wouldn’t explain why it gave me the same error on another computer. I did also add a second monitor.

July 8, 2013 at 4:17 pm in reply to: Avid first to allow 5.1 mix in edit?

That’s exactly what I was thinking. It was also a big deal in the AVID video to hit a arrow and now you could see the wave form on the actual file. I thought. Really? I teach high school video as my main gig and run my production company second. I teach them on Vegas and have quite a few students go off to film school. When they come back, most of them complain about what they can’t do, or do quickly in Final Cut, or AVID. However, Vegas just doesn’t seem to be a standard in any of the film classes they take.

  • Vegas always seems to abandon any effects, cuts and corrects made to files once you add them to a multi-cam track. I always have to correct my footage first, and then make them tracks for multi edit if I made a correction while filming. The solo track seems like vegas isn’t seeing the other clips in the add on. If you select “takes” on the new multi-cam track, can you see all the track names now as takes?

  • I’ll try to spell Resolve right next time though.

  • I use After Effects all the time. You can render out as John said and then render back, or you can use EDL to get you time line into AE without rendering. It all depends on what you want to do. I personally wouldn’t give up AE, although I have not bowed to the almighty cloud yet. I think the one thing to also consider is fan base and support. I haven’t seen a lot for Boris although I know it has a ton of bells and whistles, and what it has going for it as it has been stated is that it is a direct plug-in for Vegas, but I see very little tutorials and examples. After Effects seems to have a ton, including what used to be a great kept secret, but now is pretty hug – Video Copilot. I don’t think RED is as slick as AE, but I am also a Photoshop guy too so I am biased by habit I suppose. Even though CC is the current level, CS6 will give you a ton of what you will ever need. While you won’t get the Cinema 4D lite integration that CC boasts, you can get C4D in other ways should you ever need to (if ever). Again, it all comes down to what your need is and what you are comfortable with. For me, its After Effects.

    Hope that helps.

I have tried using the bins, but in the end for me, it ends up being more trouble then it is worth. I do all my organization in Windows modeling a cool work flow I got from Andrew Kramer, and then made it my own. I really like how the project manager helps locate and give me feed back on missing or used files, but as for the bins they just never seemed to help my work flow. I think what used to get me was I could create different bins, but it seemed to always default to the main one where I would see all the clips, and I was constantly click back to get to the sub level of bins. Again, in the end, I just found it easier to do my file breakdown in windows, but you can do all that in the “Explorer” tab. Renaming and adding folders there has been a really cool ability. Working on my last film, I could go through and rename all my shots and place audio into separate folders all in Vegas. It was a major time saver.

  • Yep. I just throw it all on a timeline. Add a region around every clip via a script, and then batch render. Usually it’s a good time for me to weed out the footage I don’t want before I batch. It works for me, but I’m not married to it by any means. At the end of the day, I’m just a guy who shoots mainly on my GH2, and I edit in Vegas 10 – haven’t made the jump to 12 both for dollars reason and haven’t seen anything that I need. – Not to hijack the thread here.

If someone who shoots on a hacked GH2 has a better route, please chime in.
