April 3, 2013 at 4:12 pm in reply to: Do you transcode your DSLR videos or do you edit it natively?Right, no magical extra coloring popping in. It was just an alternative suggested over on Dvxuser.com in the GH2 section for people who use Vegas. DNxHD was the other alternative or something uncompressed, so I thought I would try it.

April 3, 2013 at 6:41 am in reply to: Do you transcode your DSLR videos or do you edit it natively?I shoot on a hacked GH2, and have found that even though I can edit the native .mts files, I usually transcode to .mxf set as HD422 50mbps. It helps me a lot on my older Cord Duo machine to play without lag.
For what it is worth.

I bought a Shuttle Pro back in 2006 and put it on the left side of my keyboard. Sped up my editing tremendously. I have an Express at work and the Pro at home. Wish I had the Pro in both places. It is a great tool and worth the money.
My two cents.

The funny thing is…yes they do. Again, I appreciate your humor, which just reinstates to me that everything is 16×9 now. It’s how I felt, but sometimes I fell more about please the client, rather then educating the client and trying to make something that is set for future/present specs, rather then the past.
Thanks,

And just because variety is the spice of life. Here is how I break down projects.
I do all my structuring outside of Vegas. I do a “Footage” with sub folders for Audio and Video. Then I do a “Project Files” for all my .veg, and Architect files, or even my After Effects work. I then have a folder called “Renders” for all rendered work. Then if I do a DVD, or Blu-ray I make folders called that that hold the finished images. I do a folder called “Artwork,” when I do any kind of Photoshop, Illustrator work. I find that if helps me to keep everything clean should I need to pull the drive and work on another computer. I took the idea from Andrew Kramer and built upon it.
I’m currently editing my third short film and what I did for the footage on that is to create folders in the Video sub folder like “01,” or “02” for shot numbers, or I would call it something like “hallway” if it is some kind of b-roll or something that I need to identify by particular instead of script.
