Carlos, Go with the 500 not the 300.. If you are starting with new gear get a camera you can shoot anywhere. The 300 and its’ CMOS sensors will make you look bad every time you have to shoot under old fluorescent lighting. The 300’s rolling shutter will limit your client list..
I purchased the 500 a year ago and no regrets and I didn’t spend 20k… Just buy the camera about $7,990 and put a very good 2/3″ lens on it for about $1,500.. I put my older Cannon lens from my Sony DXCwsl 35 on my 500 and it is perfect.. It was a good 16×9 lens to begin with.
I am very happy… and saved big money.. When the work picks back up and the clients get more savvy, I will save money for a true HD lens.

Nigel, There are a lot of post on this forum from last summer when Sony came out with their CMOS cameras. Do a search and you might understand why I still think the HPX500 is a better choice..
And you might note, that it is my understanding that the larger chips the more control over depth of field, which might be important..

“””into the avid at like 10 to 1 compression for the “offline”””
Leave it to the Avid folks to still prefer to work “offline” Storage is cheap… Tell them about Final Cut Pro. Save time, save money, go FCP..
I am also interested in knowing what problems Avid has with P2.

Your smudge is what I call ‘crust’
Veescope is a great setup assistant. It is real time on the lap top. I use it to tweak the shot, show the talent the details etc. VeesScope has had about 3 major free upgrades lately that I have yet to check out.
You will not be happy till you try the cameras, so build yourself a green screen stage in a garage or a spare bedroom and go rent them over a weekend,, then play for the best scenario and the worst scenario. The HVX200 is not Hollywood 4k keys, but it is better than any key that I have been able to do with the Sony 35wsl at 3 times it cost.

I don’t have the raw footage anymore, but I can mention that I have done a lot of Chroma Key work over the years using our old Sony M7 (turn on all the lights) and our Sony Dxc35wsl both using a switcher with chroma key (Prodigy) and the with Final Cut Pro and VeeScope. I was very happy with the results from our HVX200 using 1080. 1080 gives you SO much more resolution to play with and the lens on the HVX200 is so wide, I was able to do the ‘dutch title’ and get toes to head shot in a space less than 20 feet long.. It is now not the camera for us, but consistent balanced lighting that makes the difference.
Don’t forget that the HVX200 is DVCpro HD with interframe recording and the Sony is the long gop mpeg. I have no experience chroma keying mpeg, but I would expect more difficulties from the format.
If that is the Sony with the CMOS chip, I would just leave it at the store for a bunch of other reason too.FCP, Mac Pro, Mac Book Pro, HPX500, HVX200, Betacam, Dvcam

The HPX is the 200 without the dvtape recorder.. I have done green screen with my 200 using 1080p..
Very nice chroma keys.. If I can find the You Tube address from last Novembers political spot, I will post it.FCP, Mac Pro, Mac Book Pro, HPX500, HVX200, Betacam, Dvcam

Nice lens, I noticed that earlier… nice matte box too.. and it is on my 3700,, Ok my 3700 on my toy list..
I’ll just pretend that it is my 500..
I wager you got 30K of glass there, a 4k matte box and my next camera…
