I’d like your opinion please
I’m looking to purchase a camera. I’ve been looking to work for myself for some time and I know the economy is pretty bad right now but I may not have a choice in the matter pretty soon with the current conditions { potential layoff have been rumored} at my work place.
I’m almost 100% sure that the p2 format is where I want to be. I’m familiar with it since the TV station I work for uses it in their AJ-HPX2000.
I can’t AFFORD the mid 20’s or so price point. Unless of course I shoot hand held and use natural lighting, lol. I’d have really crappy support gear.
I was considering the new 300 Panasonic which is due to release in the near future. I’ve seen some good things and I’ve read all the negatives, I’m aware of the negatives involving the 1/3 inch 3mos sensor and rolling shutter ETC….
For the going price of give or take 8,500 or so I can easily afford it.
My question is, does the next camera up the 500 have either enough features or better quality etc… to justify me spending twice the money for it?
The primary use would be for broadcast news, sports, docs or news magazine style shoots. This is what I’m most familiar with but I don’t want to limit myself to just news.
I want to look into event, web, corp video productions as well.
You never say never especially when you work for yourself but the only thing I can say I probably would not be shooting is independent films. I just don’t know enough about it, nor do I have any contacts in that field.
So with that said what is your opinion, I’m open to just about anything, I was considering Sony as well but I’d hate to think that I may be buying the wrong format. I’ve never had to buy gear in my 15 year of TV experience so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
