I would wonder if you have a flawed card.. Was it the only card that had heat problems?
Did other cards in the same camera P2 slot Over heat?
Has that card repeated the same problems on other shoots?
It is my understanding that the P2 card is like a mini raid of flash drives. You have a bunch of flash/ram chips all wired together… So if this is a true understanding, it is possible that one of the wires in the P2 card is shorting. Which would have me believe that the card will fail, at the wrong time…
It makes you wonder what are the odds of getting a flawed P2 card.
And what are the operational temperature range of the P2 system?
Is there software to diagnose faulty P2 cards??
Is the P2 card covered with Panny 5 year warranty?Sounds like some questions for the high Priestess of P2,,, JAN

You might want to re-read the specs for the minimum regs for Leopard and FCP6. It is my understanding that you need a Dual 1,5gig minimum to run it …

Not a one, I have had the camera since December, read everything I could. Done our first gig with it.. It out performs all my expectations. And edits are just like any other.. only 1080i

Are you editing with a G4 that has USB 1 not USB 2 ports.. USB 1 ports are way slow.. And you still would want to transfer the USB drive to your raid array to get any speed at all. I don’t think firewire is fast enough either unless your have a striped raid.
And you definitely need to sit down with your shooters and say, “hey guys , How about saving some money, your money” It is called a preproduction meeting.. to get everybody on the same page…
I have been shooting Betacam Sp since it was invented and still do, but the political spot we shot last month on HVX200 via Hard drive was just great NO TAPE, …. 1080i and the edit was done before I knew it… It is real close to the day where all spot deliveries will be FTP also, No tape….
As Jan (Queen of P2) suggests check out the HVX-HPX P2 Panny forum.. Heck live there… Even Sony is going tapeless…

I have had my HVXX since late December and so far no problems…
But I have been using it in the studio attached to the Mac….
Not P2 world yet.

There is a post either here or over on the FCP forum, where the HVX200 user discovered that he had one of a bad lot of HVX200 cameras… There seems to be a shipment of HVX that had bad P2 connections… That would kinda explain your problem but not entirely…
Not good news….. at least it is not $5k worth of Bear Stearns stock..

Get the HVX200, a 32 foot firewire cable from Granite Digital $85, a MacBookPro with 4gigs ram $2,500 and change, a sata express card from Addonics.com $65, and two sata drive, 2.5″ 160gig sata x2 is about $260,, I am currently testing extra budget Calvary sata drives 500gigs at 110 each… and I also just got a Westinghouse 24″ monitor from Best Buy $389,, to monitor the HVX and the computer, add a small cart to arrange the gear on, place next to tripod and your good to go… Plus you can edit the show before you leave the location.. .. I am recording everything to the mirrored sata drives… I love data back ups.. 160 gig mirrored is about 2.5 hours and the 500gig should be about 7 hours 1080i using Final Cut Pro… capture now.
I haven’t done any location yet , but we did do a chromakey spot for a politician.. worked great..

That’s one of these, is one pricey 320 gigs of location mirrored raid.
Me thinks I will stick with the “Micro Center” solution… 2.5″sata enclosures $30, 160gig sata drive $100 total $260 for 2 sata drives 160gig mirrored location recording… Buss powered via USB – I use a USB powered USB Hub..
