Start about a year ago, and start reading the posts in this forum,,, for all the details,,

But the quick answer is “not a, nothing, you will have no problems at all… just keep it simple..
I would also get a Dual sata express card and esata Hard drives x 2 or more,, then you can have a mirrored raid for proper back up and some speed… You don’t want to loose footage. I also like to plug in a keyboard and another 24” monitor.

You will have to forgive me if I don’t come over and set up your camera for you.. But I have a bid to write and yes I am busy also. But I make it a point to read this forum and the DVxuser.com forum for advice and insight to the HVX200 and our HPX500. Neither camera is older than 6 months so we are quite new at it also.. But yes firewire works for me and yes I learned it on these forums. So I do suggest that you take the time to search this forum and Dvxuser. If I knew the menus by heart I would quote the set ups to you…. but today I am not feeling particularly that generous to go set up the camera and gear just to help a guy who is to lazy to search a topic that has been discussed and discussed. I will suggest that you double check your Firewire cable to make sure that it is good, because they do go bad and you might want to take the lens cap off…

The HVX200 shoots in DV, DVpro, 720, and 1080…. It is not just one of them so yes might be your answer… I do not have the camera in front of me…. Dig thru the menu… It will work..

Plug your Firewire into one side of the MacBook or Power book, use a firewire or sata express card or PCMCIA card on the other side to plug in your hard drive. Make sure your camera Time code is set to ‘free run’, set FCP to uncontrollable device and hit capture now…

Using my new Mac Pro with 2x 1TB hard drives stripped together I recorded 34 hours of straight 1080 HD video from my HPX500 with our any drop outs… Just to discover that quicktime will play the 34 hour file but FCP will not. FCP has a 12 hour limit on video and a 6 hour limit on video with audio… learn something everyday..

More so than those in the Kingdom of ALL things AVID the great….. I would find that hard to believe.

To have AVID, to be Avid, now there is a class of editors that really needed a reality check..

Andy, I see these side bars with Captured Betacam, also. I was told by an Engineer, as he was pointing at the video scope, that the bars are referred to as the front and back porch to the video signal. It is where on the old CRT that the scan would travel from the bottom of the picture back up to the top of the picture to travel down again, or other words called “the video blanking” It is how you would time various analog video decks and machines (DVE, character generators, TBC ) to have all there signals match so the signal would not break up or roll as it goes thru a video switcher. It is the part of the signal that, I have been told is the ‘critical’ part -front and back porch- for the picky network types like PBS and National Geographic… A true video engineer could explain it better… Everything being digital these days, I think it is more a left over from old analog video….. but find an engineer..

I had this problem when masking out parts of a Tiff…. The tiff was way larger than 720×486 timeline I was working in…. so try freeze framing the image to get the size down to the timeline size or shrink the image in the viewer and play guess the point by clicking on the black outside the image..

I just completed your upgrade at my place.. I was going to purchase more gear, but the client cut 40% off my summer budget…. so I skinnied down and still went HD…. this is what I got well under 25K….

HVX200, 24″ Westinghouse cheap monitor and a MacBook Pro and the Duel Adaptor for P2 off loads purchased last Xmas, –this June– HPX500 with rebate and No Lens (using my SD lens off Sony DXLwsl Betacam), JVC 24″ broadcast LCD, Pioneer 6X Blu Ray with external esata case, Mac Pro 3.2 + 16gb ram (recommended-Transinternational.com) 320 system drive and 3 x 1 TB Western Digital drives, Sennheiser wireless Lav, UPS-surge protector, Adobe CS3… Sony Blu Ray Player w/HDMI & Component..

Yes, this is budget HD.. But as the work comes in, the Westinghouse becomes a location monitor replaced with 2 matching Dells with the JVC going on the wall when I can cash a Kona 3, The Western Digitals have a 3 year warranty so in 2 years they become archive HD for the file cabinet, A CCC Lens is on this years Xmas list, as is a 8 drive raid 5 array. I have FCP Studio #1 so I am holding out out for FCP Studio #2.5 with Blu Ray support..

2 camera HD with location editing. I can use the MacBook Pro w/ esata drives mirrored to record hours on location… The HPX 500 is gorgeous with the SD lens (just becareful were you point it)

All under 25k and pretty 1080HD with some change still in the bank…
