OK, found the problem, I don’t know how I did it, but I toggled off “Multiclip Playback”. The only way I found the button was to grab the Multiclip Tool Bar out of the Tools menu. Then toggled it on.

Does anyone what the keyboard shortcut is for that. It would seem I inadvertantly pressed it.

Theoretically it should work to use an older mac, but you may find yourself waiting around a lot. But if that works for you, or if that’s all you can afford at the moment, then that’s the bottom line. If you decide to go with the older iMac, go for one with the 256MB video card.

You might consider doing a financing type thing. I think Apple is offering 6-months no interest. That’ll give you some time for the money to come in.

So, actually I found out how to do what I wanted in Compressor, thanks to Lynda.com and some poking around.

I was under deadline, so that is why I was trying to figure out this issue. Now all is good.

I do find Squeeze slightly easier to create the custom presets. However, as I learn more about Compressor, it seems very good and customizable as well, but with less options probably.

I do like the ability to do Virtual Clustering, being able to take advantage of the multicore Mac Pro with other codecs. It about dang time!

Interestingly, when I tried to install the ProRes decoder for Windows, it said that there was a later version found on the computer. I suppose this has to do with the fact that I have already installed the latest version of iTunes on the Windows box.

So, if I have the latest version of ProRes, then why is Sorenson complaining? Maybe I should be contacting Sorenson for an answer.

Spoke with Blackmagic and they told me to install the driver package on the Windows box that contains the codecs.

After installing this pacakge, I still could not use the 10-bit. However they said that I might have to use 8-bit.

Source footage was imported with a Blackmagic NTSC – Apple ProRes (HQ) setting.
Sequence is set to Apple ProRes 422 NTSC 48 kHz.

I’ll try 8-bit as you mentioned. Maybe I can contact Sorenson and have them move the activation to the Mac, it is going to be quite annoying. I thought I would be able to do everything in Compressor.

In the meantime, I used a DV stream, and that seems to be working and is okay, but not great.

I am beginning to feel the same way as you. I am used to Sorenson Squeeze.

However, here is my problem. I have my copy of Sorenson Squeeze installed on a Windows machine. When I export in either ProRes 422 or Uncompressed 10-bit, Sorenson says it does not support that format. Is this something where I can manualy add those codecs to the Windows machine?

As a rule, I try to give Sorenson the best quality file to compress from, so what would you recommend I export from FCP so that I can retain quality?

Your workaround worked great. Glad to hear your explanation. I’m still learning how FCP “thinks” when you’re moving things around on the timeline.

I had moved some footage with audio to the timeline, but then decided to remove the audio all together. Also, I used the Roll or Ripple tool to move some video track w/o moving the audio track. So, somehow I confused FCP and myself in the process. It is interesting that earlier I had adjusted the speed on a couple clips and it just moved things forward from that point, like an insert.

Everything is now working great, but I still show some red notations on some of the video. But should be fine as I don’t have to modify that portion at all anymore.

You are totally right, that is exactly what is happening.

However, if you can believe it, I have no idea how to move a keyframe. Also, I feel like I’ve seen FCP automate this task, sort of like snapping, so you don’t have to update manually if you add or remove transitions.

Not sure if I’m missing something in what you’re trying to do, but try going to:

Sequence–>Settings (the sequence must be open and the timeline window selected) –>Timeline Options (tab)
–> and choose your Starting Timecode

You can make the Starting Timecode whatever you want.

Hope that solves your problem. As Nicole stated, Final Cut allows or a lot of customization, but you have to know how to do it first!!! I can’t imagine they left something sort of basic like that out.
