Oh no! That’s wrong. Illustrator works always with square pixels and you should leave the footage interpretation set to that! In addition to that, you should work in a square composition, which in your case would be 720×540. You can always conform it to DV by nesting it in a DV ratio composition in the final step.

Projects from lower end Avid systems can be opened in higher end apps. E.g. you can open an XPress project in Media Composer or Symphony. You can also export bins and edit lists easily, so you should not have a problem to offline edit in XPress Pro and finish on another system. You can’t really circumvent the pixel aspect problem, though, and you also will not be able to use “crooked” resolution settings like your proposed 720×380 px on Avid systems if you want to maintain a level of realtime functionality (unless this is a typo and you meant 720×480). From my POV the smart move would be to cut together a rough clip with the timings in XPress and then re-build everything in AE or a HD system using the clip as reference only. No ideas about that RAW to JPEG thingy, but should be doable using automation in Bridge or PS directly.

Are you working in compositions with square pixels? Is your footage interpretation correct?

Save the files with the “maximize compatibility” (in the preferences). On a side note, unless you rasterize your effects, not all of them will come over to AE. It knows only a few of them and e.g. the bevel/ contour is not part of that set.

You need to edit the keyboard shortcuts file. There is no panle/ window to do it on the interface.

Quicktime files with an overlay on their icon mean that additional data is embedded in them like e.g. project links for After Effects. This option is available on the render queue. The window is called project window.

There’s a directory called zdictionaries in your Support Files folder. Try to delete or edit those. They contain localisation info and maybe AE is loading them even when using the explicit language shortcut for English.

[Martin Munthe] “That’s not entierly correct. You can import 3D objects exported from LightWave using Zaxwerks plugin. Good for logos.”
Yeah, but do you really expect someone who has a 3D program to invest another 300 bucks in Invig and still see that it’s much more limited than even some of the most basic “true” 3D programs? Anyway, a moot point since what he want’s to do could not be done in Invigorator easily.

You cannot import models into AE. You need to render them with Alpha channels so the scan be imported in AE without keying. Shadows can be matzched in Lightwave by using front projection mapping on dummy geometry in combination with special render properties for those mapped objects. It’s all explained in the manual.
