Continuously rasterize will keep blendmodes intact across compositions (e.g. if you have a layer set to Overlay in a subcomp, the parts showing through in the main comp will still act like Overlay mode and not revert to normal) and it will maintain detail on vector art. It will also change the order in which the rendering algorithm processes the layer. This does not work with effects, since in AE almost all effects are pixel-based, thus destroying all original vector info or not rendering at all. In those cases pre-comping is indeed the only solution. In theory it would also help you with infinite zooms if your images are vector based, but that’s not always possibel. For instance many elevation maps are still bitmapped and only other info such as roads are vectors. In those cases you generally have better luck by cross-fading multiple versions at different resolutions e.g. by combining satellite images with aerial photographs.

April 19, 2006 at 6:04 pm in reply to: Video Copilot: Training for After Effects 7 < good for 6.5 also?[Sean Barrett] “Does anyone know if I would be at a serious disadvantage using 6.5 instead of 7 for the video copilot tutorial, After Effects 7: Serious Effects & Compositing? Thanks.”
I don’t think so. Judging from the promo, all techniques illustrated would work in AE 6.5, you may just have to accept some minor limitations and look a bit longer for some effects (as they are in different categories).

All I see: continuously rasterize. now dig into the help files and find the magic words and a whole new universe will open up…

Yeah, I think I know what you are getting at. Still, my project seems a good point to start. Since you don’t seem to need any of the fancies, you could simply strip them from the file… The project is only so slow because it uses lots of layers and passes through the blendmodes using the collapse transformations switch, but for your purposes you could turn that off entirely. If you can post an image of the flare as you imagine it, I might find a few minutes to adjust my project accordingly and provide it to you.

I don’t have the slightest idea what you are trying to say here, but have you checked my tutorial here at the COW? It provides several tricks and all the expressions for setting up a halfway realistic lensflare. If you replace the elements with your designs, you should be getting what you need.

Not to state the obvious, but simple addition will do ;O).
1500+Math.floor(time)
will add one year for each second.
1500+Math.floor(timeToFrames(time))
will do the same, but at every frame. If you need the ultimate control add a slider expression control to your layer and try this:
year_start=1500;
year_end=1903;
year_control=effect(“Slider Control”)(“Slider”);year_current=linear(year_control,0,100,year_start,year_end);
[year_current]
This will give you the same functionality like the Numbers effect – if you animate the slider from 0 to 100, the counter will follow accordingly, allowing you to add inbetween keys where needed.

[paapoopa] ”
so how do you link the parameters of the cards like size and rotation to other layers?”From within the plugin interface.
