The most efficient way would be using a script. And I believe you can indeed already find several of the type that will extend your comp and shift your layer. Other than that, you can of course do it manually – make your comp longer and move the existing layers manuall to the new in-time, then add your new footage.

Yes, you could do that. Not sure off the top of my head, but there should be a thisLayer.numMarkers method which would give you exactly what you need.

June 7, 2006 at 6:24 pm in reply to: is there an expression to add the clone stamp tool?

Expressions can’t call application windows and panels and their functions and even JSX scripts are limited to things like the project window, compositions and the render queue. You have to do your stuff manually, as tedious as it may be. Your guide for expressions are the help files, websites like AEnhancers.com and whatever generic resources on JavaScript you can find.

What’s your problem in particular? Strings can be concatenetaed just like adding variables, e.g.:

    “1”+”,”+”200″+”,”345″

would read as 1,200,345. you still need to drive the values, but you can clearly find enough topics covering this, including a few tips of mine, if you do a search at the COW.

Have you re-installed Quicktime and any other software that may have introduced those CoDecs? They are system components, not parts of AE.

June 7, 2006 at 4:13 pm in reply to: Exporting to DVD

[Laura Woolf] “Is there a maximum resolution for DVD? Also I am slightly confused about square/non square pixels? At the moment I have the comp at 1024 x 768 PAL for full screen on my computer as I am lining up the projection from my computer. Does this correspond to DVD? I am new to this and any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated.”

All DVD (Video) for PAL are 720 by 576 pixels. There’s no way around this. For 4:3 the pixel aspect would be 1.667, so you will have to nest your square pixel comp in a anamorphic comp with the proper D1 settings. The square pixel equivalent is 768×576. Usually you will also want to render fields, but for display on an LCD screen you can perhaps forego this and render progressive.

[Laura Woolf] “Also it is 7mins and it takes 12hrs to render. Is there any way to make this faster?”

Your comp is simply unneccessary large. Using proper sizes will cut down render times by one third, perhaps even more. However, since you seem to have everything already in place and will only be scaling your comp, you will have to live with the long render times – you will render many pixels that afterwards will be interpolated anyway and thus loose their unique detail. You could only avoid this by completely rebuilding your comp.
