No. Unless you properly merge your paths in illustrator, AE will always use multiple masks. If that#s not possible, then you just have to live with it. In this case the math involved beats the usability, unfortunatley.

Would be easy in a 3D program using displacement techniques, so probably the good thing to do would be to get Digital Anarchy’s 3DLayer plugin and apply the same methodology. You could also try the Shatter effect with a negative forcefield (so it collapses rather than exploding) or any combination of displacement effects. Regardless of what you do, the main trick will be to build a sufficiently random displacement map using effects such as Fractal Noise, radial gradients, find edges etc.

I agree with crgreen – PFTrack is probably the most sophisticated tool when it comes to the algorithms used. It also supports object tracking, facial feature tracking and a few other tricks that you don’t get in Syntheyes, Boujou or Matchmover. I also think it supports the most export formats of them all and, which is probably not so unimportant, it was designed with custom extensibility in mind from the start so it has had a documented programming API and scripting from the start when other apps only started to add this functionality recently. That said, there must of course be a price to pay and in this case it’s speed. It takes long compared to other apps to even solve simple scenes. However, there is a way around that by getting additional network licenses and having calculations doen on multiple machines at once.

Just like julian said – use your keyed talent as an obscuration layer for Particular. Of course you need to properly adjust the path of Particular to avoid intersections…

Where are you adjusting the repeats? On the texture tag or in the material editor?

Make sure both your spatial and temporal interpolation are linear. They are separate properties in AE and making just one of them linear won’t work and result in the behavior you describe.

[eric jordan] “I don’t believe trapcode particular can do that…..”
You believe wrong. Please study my tutorial here at the COW for some inspiration. It’s easily doable, espacially with such flat particles that don’t render as slow as cloudlets…

Yeah, you have to be more specific. I can think of at least 3 ways how to do that easily in C4D (and I don’t even have Pyrocluster/ Advanced Render and Thinking Particles yet).

October 20, 2006 at 5:52 am in reply to: Can someone help me with this Composition [QUESTION]Just like PRGraphist said – make sure you are working with square pixels all the time. Certain plugins don’t handle anamorphic ratios, including the Trapcode ones (which is stated in the manual for those plugiun, if you were going to complain).
