I doubt you will achive ultimate realism. CC HAir is strictly pixel based and at least the lighting will always look flat. It also renders terribly slow. Except for a 3D solution which seems out of the question, to me the better solution would be to use tools such as particular. I’d animate a few hairs growing and then use them as custom particles. It wouldn’t be too difficult to place them using a masked solid in a pre-comp as the area for a layer emitter. You’d only need to set emission velocity to zero and let your hairs grow in place. At least on the cheeks and chin this should give you good results if you don’t exceed a certain length of the hair.

You track in the layer window, not the composition. Therefore you never see your target, only the layer the tracker works on.

The splashes seem to be practical elements (as in being filmed real splashes) used as mattes, complemented by some animated masks. The strokes are simple strokes with Roughen Edges or a fractalized matte on top of them.

AE 7 has a blur animator. To apply other effects selectively, use duplicates of your text as luma mattes. By colorizing white text with a black fill animator you should be able to do whatever you need.

It’s officailly out, they are just hopelessly backlogged with deliveries. I’m still waiting for mine, also.

You can certainly get similar results by using particle based animation. Particular has a so-called path mode which allows you to paint an entire stroke with particles easily. By using shapes such as grass for custom particles, what you need certainly could be achieved. Try to download the demo and play with it – except for the demo overlay it’s fully funcrtional and allows you to make up your mind.

No. Custom brush tips are not supported in AE yet (as the painting system is completely different from PS anyways).

No, not really. You need to track the hand’s motion and then apply effects such as Write On. If you need a specific look, I suggest you use practical elements such as the actual painting scanned in or you even shoot this completely for real.

Most likely you are scaling, rotating or slightly moving one of the pre-comps somewhere. Due to the sub-pixel sampling it will soften slightly. Either find the offending items and correct that or use continuous rasterization to folds all transforms and only have them calculated in the last step.

    Try this:

Hasn’t been updated in a while, but is a good place to start.
