um, what part, specifically, is giving you difficulty?
If you are just not sure where to start, I would consider gathering some reference images of a prism and light rays. You could possibly build a simple geometric prism in 3d, or possibly shoot it live and composite the rays in post.
Also, if the clock is ticking, you might want to start tonight and work through the weekend. When in doubt, I usually work long nights in the begining of a job, so I can be in a better place towards the end.
Best advice, though, is to make sure your client knows that you are having difficulty actualizing this. Perhaps they can give you some kind of reference, or a few days extension on the job. Better to tell them now than on Tuesday.

hey, the manual and help files for Silhouette are very straightforward. If you do alot of roto, it’s worth purchasing. It’s also got some great paint tools and an amazing tracker. They have Silhouette where I work, and I picked up on it in less than a day. I’m not sure what the price difference is between the standalone and the AE plugin, but I can tell you that the stand alone syncs up perfectly with AE, Shake, and Flame.

If there is a 2d layer between any two 3d layers, the 3d space above and below the 3d layers is seperate. Try putting a solid between the clipping layers and turning the opacity to 0. This will keep the layers from clipping.

January 14, 2006 at 7:23 pm in reply to: AE must have played a part in this cool motorola ad ?In general, most 3d animation is still sent out to a compositor to adjust and finish the project. AE is just one solution. Something large-budget like this may have involved AE, but is likely to have been finished with Flame or some other realtime compositing system. But it could be done in AE.

to the best of my knowledge, you can’t track or parent or expression using individual mask points. Try doing it in Combustion or Shake, you’ll find that the masking and tracking are better in those packages.

The cow has the best AE tutorials. Hands down.

Artbeats.com is a good place.
Also, for free, check out public domain stuff. Some of it is dated, and it’s very hit and miss.
Best way is to film it yourself, if the project is low budget. Show your producer the price of the stock footage, then compare it to the price of a camera rental plus your rate. If time is a factor and deadlines are looming, you might find that they are willing to find some extra money in the budget for stock footage. -
did you preview it on an ntsc monitor in ae? I never trust a computer monitor. The gamma just is nothing like a real monitor.

I’ve seen you post this several times- what have you tried already? I would take a dvd case and photograph each side with very flat lighting, then crop and assemble the sides in 3d space. I made a cigarette package this same way. If you are looking for project files, you might want to check out turbosquid.com. You might find a 3d model of a dvd case there, but it will probably cost money.
