    Dear all,

question: I would like to build a DVD case in After Effects that is open, DVD discs flying in, and the DVD case closing (as you see in some music or movie commericals). The DVD case should contain textures of the original DVD cover. I have seen examples of this on creativecow for cd box, is there anybody who has a link/idea/project files for DVD?

    Thanks in advance!

    Best, Erik

I’ve seen you post this several times- what have you tried already? I would take a dvd case and photograph each side with very flat lighting, then crop and assemble the sides in 3d space. I made a cigarette package this same way. If you are looking for project files, you might want to check out turbosquid.com. You might find a 3d model of a dvd case there, but it will probably cost money.

    Hi mstleger,

thanks for your reply. I indeed posted it several times, since I was wondering why no reply whereas I would consider this something that some of us hobbyists bump into. I have seen a thread describe and supplying the base materials for a cd but not for DVD. I’ll try your option as well as visit this website and see how much cash to spend.

    Thanks again!

Since 1 unit = 1 pixel in AE’s 3D space, you can make a DVD case in Photoshop (making sure to maintain scale). You may encounter some funkiness around the edges but if you position things out properly and utilize nulls, you should be able to work out a fake 3D effect.

If you’re really patient, you could try and use Invigorator but in my case I would just use lightwave 😉

    Hi,

I also wonder why you didn’t simply try the AE 3D space method with a couple of scans.
I am very busy right now but I promise I will cook something for you with Invigorator Tomorrow.
I won’t make it perfect you would have to do some work too…:-)

    Salut.
