Just tested the HZ-CA13U PL at IBC with an 8mm Arri prime lens. Virtually no light loss and no CA at all! Had it mounted next to a setup with the P&S mini35 which in comparison lost about 2 stops of light and had quite a lot of vignetting of the edges. I would prefere the HZ-CA13U PL anytime…

In AE you can use the depth matte to slice the image layer from a certain depth and forward.
You can use this to comp the layer in front of a 2D object that you place in Z-depth, but you will need a copy of the 3D-image in the background. A sandwich.

  • I would be careful to use the camera for digitizing large sums of tapes. I had to change my PD150s tape mechanism after using it to digitize for a 35min. documentary.

Finalcut does not fully support multible codecs in the same timeline.
Since part is 4:2:2 (uncompressed) and part is 4:1:1 (DV) you will have to render.

set the Kona output to Macintosh Desktop – if you’re in PAL world you’ll have to set the output to 525i

I’ll fill in the blanks with 10 favorites then:

    1) Mixed codecs/resolutions in the same timeline
    2) Background rendering while editing
    3) Colorcorrection curves
    4) Individual track height
    5) Saved project includes setup
    6) Used clip indicator in bins
    7) Direct import of image sequences
    8) Fixed 4/8 pt. garbage mattes
    9) Subframe audio editing
    10) Integration with Shake that works

July 12, 2006 at 6:41 pm in reply to: more room for my Xserve RAID… how?

If you add same size you can stribe them together as Raid 0 and get double space – if the new drives are bigger you will loose that overhead in the new stribe – but you can create a separate partition for the exceeding size (Each side is normally stribed with Raid 5 and thereafter they appear as 2 drives, which can be stribed as a single volume) Hope it makes sense
