I ran an AJA test and got 160MB/s write speed, and 92 MB/s read speed.

I looked at the clip in FCP and in the quicktime player, and the skipped frames happen in the exact same spot. In FCP, it repeats a frame for 3 frames then skips ahead. In the quicktime player, it just skips ahead.

As far as I could tell, and from the answers I got at the Apple/AICE event last night, the answer would be no.

Actually, last year was the first Apple hosted AICE event. If I remember correctly, last years AICE schedule was exactly the same as this years. Location may be different, but that doesnt really matter once you start drinking. Let’s be honest, you all go for the free drinks. I know I do. 🙂 cheers and see you there, I’ll be the drunk guy getting another Jack and Coke. cheers!

If you are working at 720×486 SD (not 720×480 which is DV) you need to create your graphics at 864×486. Then, set your project to anamorphic.

[David Roth Weiss] “[moodyglasgow] “Would you run Raid5 on internal drives???”

You couldn’t if you wanted to with the onboard Apple SATA controller. Its software only, which means support only for RAID-0 and RAID-1 (mirroring).”

    My point exactly.

Would you run Raid5 on internal drives??? I can see the point of running a couple drives in a raid config internally, but for the work we do, we need to run Raid 5. Drives fail. Sometimes it won’t happen to you for years, sometimes twice in one week. When you edit with clients every day, and can’t afford to have downtime, Raid5 is the way to go. Can you hotswap a bad internal drive?

I think it comes down to the type of work you do, and what you need from your raid.

The problem with applying to jobs that are posted to website or message boards, is that everyone and their grand mothers dog will apply for it… I believe the average posting for a decent Avid editor job gets hundreds of applications. So, you really have to find a way to set yourself apart from the pack.

Networking is by far the best way to find a new job, in my opinion. People are always more comfortable hiring someone who is known by a friend or co worker.

As far as finding a headhunter, I’ve tried searching for one, and haven’t had much luck. Let me know if you find one, because I’m always interested in new opportunities.

Without seeing the edit I can’t recommend anything. Editing isn’t a cookie cutter process, so what works with one edit might not work with another. Here’s a good way to start to tackle your problem:
What is the purpose of the transition? Look at the transitions you have available to you and think of how they fit into your cut. Does she drift into this dreamland, or is she pulled into it.
In terms of color / effects for the dream sequence, what idea is the dream sequence supposed to convey? Use a color that help get that across.
