My thoughts exactly… I am stunned by Apple’s decision… Other companies like Autodesk will still be on the show floor, so I’m still going to NAB, and I’ll be looking at everyone BUT Apple’s and AVID’s products… Almost every year we see something that we really like on the show floor, and end up buying shortly after. That’s how we bought our Smoke, our FCP systems, and our XSAN….

Also, isn’t it kind of lame of Apple and AVID to not pay for floor space at NAB, but take advantage of the fact that everyone will be in Vegas at that time, and have their little private side shows? If you are pulling out to do roadshows, then do you roadshows, don’t lurk around the outskirts of NAB and lure in NAB goers with free food and drinks!

I guess I’ll go if they give me free drinks… ;P

(You know thats the main reason to go to NAB, free food and drinks!)

For some reason, it strikes me as odd… That article was posted on Feb. 1, almost a week ago, and it just surfaces now? I read it again, and much of it seems vague. When AVID dropped out there was a lot more news and info about it.
    Maybe its just me.

Funny thing is, I went Nabshow.com and clicked on the link to the show floor

    https://www.nabshow.com/2008/showFloor/default.asp#

First thing I noticed was the Apple logo on the south hall…

    EDIT – https://www.nabshow.com/2008/exhibitor/PostProduction.asp

    shows Apple as an exhibitor…

One year, our office manager take care of our travel arrangments… We ended up staying at the Palace Station (off strip). We ended up spending all the money he saved in cab fares.
Look at a map of the strip, and try and see if you can get a good rate at one of the place where the monorail stops… like the MGM. Taking the monorail to the convention center is much cheaper, and faster then taking a cab and waiting in line.

What Ed said was right on. At least in commercial post production in LA, what he said is pretty standard.

    That is what I thought.

There isn’t some 2 or 3 card in a slot sloution is there???

My point was that with a Kona 3 card and a Fibre channel card, it would get very crowded with 3 graphics cards in there too.

I know cache is turned off, I’ll double check the firmware on the raid to see if needs an update.

    thanks

Yeah I have Host Cache Flushing turned off.

Since it appears to be a raid speed issue, here is more info on our raid setup. We have an Xserve Raid, but we are only using one side. (not my choice). We have 7 500GB drives, running Raid 5.

So, I think to run uncompressed 1080p, we would need to use both channels on the fibre card. Any thoughts as to what format we could run with this current setup? I tried 1080p DVCPro HD, and that worked. I’m not thrilled about using that format, but this project is a freebie, so I’m not going to lose too much sleep over it.

BTW, thank you all for the help!
