I guess the main reason I go is to have fun. Yeah F-U-N. Vegas is still fun for me. I enjoy meeting people. I enjoy going to the sponsored parties. I love to pepper sales people with questions, to see if they can give me the correct answer.
One year, Avid sponsored the AICE party, and they filled the room with their people. It turned into a game to see how long a sales person could last before they “suddenly” saw some long lost friend on the other side of the room.
Yeah, you won’t find any exclusive deals, or get the scoop on some announcement. But, that’s not why I go, or anyone else I know’s goes. It really is about having FUN and meeting old friends and making new ones.moody glasgow

Yeah, I guess the announcement is a little lame considering it was supposed to come last month…
In 2 weeks they came up with a price cut, and EOL on Xpress? Isn’t that what all the users have been asking for? (the price cut)

Yeah, Las Vegas Hotels rates are dropping faster then home prices in Los Angeles…
I have a suite at the Palms Place for $195 a night, for Saturday through Monday night…

I disagree Ron. I think learning is an individual process, and what works for some people doesn’t work for others. Personally, I like online tutorials for picking up a bit of knowledge here and there. But, I think a classroom is much better if you want a full immersion experience with a program.
But you are right that lynda.com has some great online tutorials. I got a free month of it when I bought my most recent version of After Efftects.
You also correct in saying that you must be aggressive in making sure you don’t get left behind in a class. You are paying just as much as anyone else in that class, so feel free to stop the instructor, and ask questions so that you do understand.moody glasgow

Yeah, NAB’s website isn’t very clear on this.
As far as I know, the Post Production Conference and the Certification classes are seperate prices.

https://www.nabshow.com/2008/conferences/ppwccertification.aspSo, my interpretation of those 2 pages is this: The $900 is for the full week of Post Production conferences. Certification costs $850 per class. Or you can combine certification with the Post Production Conferences for a total of $1325.
I am actually going to the Monday post conference for final cut pro, which comes out to $275 for the day. We had an editor take the hands on Final Cut Level 1 certification class last year. He was a bit overwhelmed and ended up not even take the test at the end of the class. This was my fault, cause I kept him up past his bed time drinking, and gambling.

The sickest I have ever been and went in for a full day of work was my first day of Smoke class. In the middle of the night I woke up with a horrible stomach flu and without being too graphic, let’s just say I spent most of the night in the bath room. I got up in the morning decided that nothing was going to stop me from learning the Smoke, so I drove an hour with a large bowl on my lap in LA traffic to get to my Smoke class. I had to take a few extra breaks that day, but I made and stuck to until the class was over. I’m glad I did.
