  • Dumb question regarding building a new system

Posted by Moody Glasgow on May 25, 2007 at 4:05 pm

We are building out a new FCP system, and someone recently told me that under graphics card options, 3x Nvidia 7300 GT 256MB, is actually one card???? Anyone heard of this? Or has anyone ordered any of the X2 or X3 versions of the Nvidia 7300GT?

    thanks

When you go to the Apple store, the first thing listed for Mac Pro video cards is NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256 MB.

The next choice is 2 x NVIDIA GeForce 7300 for $149 more.

This means you are buying two of them.

The 3 x means you are buying 3 of them.

Each one adds about $150 to the price.

    That is what I thought.

There isn’t some 2 or 3 card in a slot sloution is there???

My point was that with a Kona 3 card and a Fibre channel card, it would get very crowded with 3 graphics cards in there too.

There’s only so much bandwidth on the bus, so you can only push a limited amount of graphical information, and the card can only process so much on its GPU.

The speed of light still limits things to physical reality.
