March 12, 2007 at 7:56 pmWhen you set up your settings I’ve been using 1280:720 but that seems so huge.
Are there other dimensions that Broadcast Editors use? -

If you are working in SD video, then you Easy Setup will have to be Anamorphic. If you are working in HD, then the sky’s the limit on this.

March 12, 2007 at 8:12 pmI was asked to create autoshow movie for Plasma Screens and I am wondering what to set my comp settings to.
I’m looking into the screen size dimensions for SD.
I understand HD is 1280:720
but what about Standard definition how do you compensate for new plasma screens and not screw up your aspect ratio? -

March 12, 2007 at 8:57 pmI would suggest that you contact your auto show people and ask hem what resolution they want.
HDcomes in two screen resolutions, 1280×720 and 1920×1080. Most all plasma screns are 1366×768 meaning the actual screen size is equalivalent to 720p HD video.
You have two options here… One, you capture all of your footage at 720 or 1080 and edit accordingly. Two, you can capture and edit your program in SD video then upconvert to 720 or 1080. Pick one.

If you’re working with existing 4:3 SD material, you can’t show the whole image on a 16:9 screen without cropping or distorting the frame unless you display the image with black bars on either side.
If you’re creating SD graphics for a 16:9 screen, create them at 854×480 resolution, then resize them to 720×480 and make sure your project settings are set for for 16:9 anamorphic video. If you’re producing a DVD, make sure the footage is encoded as 16:9.

March 13, 2007 at 4:42 amIf you are working at 720×486 SD (not 720×480 which is DV) you need to create your graphics at 864×486. Then, set your project to anamorphic.
