Without seeing the edit I can’t recommend anything. Editing isn’t a cookie cutter process, so what works with one edit might not work with another. Here’s a good way to start to tackle your problem:
What is the purpose of the transition? Look at the transitions you have available to you and think of how they fit into your cut. Does she drift into this dreamland, or is she pulled into it.
In terms of color / effects for the dream sequence, what idea is the dream sequence supposed to convey? Use a color that help get that across.

    got sapphire?
a little glow goes a long way.
    If ya dont try this:

as filler, over the top layer of video of your dream sequence, add a color effect. Crank the brightness aaaaaal the way up. Then, alt-drag a resize effect on there, promote it to 3D, go to defocus and defocus both X and Y axis. Cruise down to profile and make it like 50 percet. Set that how ya like it but you’ll have a dreamy, soft flavor that otta work great.
You can also apply these to you clips… just quicker if you have already edited the dream sequence.

    Hey

Im not an xpress user so im not sure what all is in it, sorry. However i did build a similar sequence recently and used an audiosuite plug-in called deverb during the ‘dream’ by playing with the decay, room acoustics etc you can get an otherworldy feel that might help the audience identify the sequence as not being ‘part of this world’.

    Might be worth a shot!

    🙂
