I would not be buying myself, as my Graphic cards are fine for the amount of polyongs I am owrking with on projects. I use Nvidia 6800GT and an X800pro on my workstations.
But this sounds interesting, do you have more info?

When using a tablet, make sure that you have ‘Graphic Tablet’ turned on in the
    Edit>Preferences>Common menu

To undo your view action, you need to go to the Edit menu of the View window, and not use the normal Undo function ( the Viewport are kept separate).

Also, default the following Hotkeys are mapped to the mouse (or pen) to navigate in teh viewport:
    Alt+LeftMouseButton Rotate Camera
    Alt+MMB Pan Camera
Alt+RMB Scale Camera ( zoom in and out)

Send a request to Maxon, they are quite responsive to user requests.

Have a look at the 10 comm plugin from Paul Everett, it features a Show Last Render option, as well as a window in which you can load 2 renderings to compare differences.

I remember that Max has an option that re-renders only modified parts of the image if the rest of the view remains the same, right? That would be nice.

If you don’t know it you may want to check ou Strom Tracer at http://www.peranders.com.
It is quite fast for creating effects with sprites,
    may be usefull.

off the bat, I would say you are better off try this with 2 sequences composited in ( fill the blamk with your favorite compositing app here), if you don’t have access to one, then it can get quite tough depending on what effect you want to achieve,
to get an easy afde out you could just key the visibility parameters…

have you tried it setting the scene antialiasing to Best , otherwise only the geometry gets antialiased.?
Is the resolution of the image correct?
Did you try the scene in a new doc, with only the Backgound object, to see if the problem really has to do with the texture?
The easiest would be to composite though…

what about adding a display tag to teh floor , and turning the display type to something else, so that the lights don’t affect the representation of the floor?
    (ex constant shading)
