Greetings. I own 9.x (.0 patched to .1) XL bundle academic license for Windows. Just bought 9.5 academic license, and it came with a 9.1 disc set and a 9.5 upgrade disc. Anyone know if I can upgrade directly from my existing copy of 9.x to 9.5 or if I have to install the new copy of 9.1 before upgrading to the new 9.5? I would like to keep my old 9.1 intact, as I puchased that as a full academic license, but I would also like to avoid reinstalling my zillion plug-ins. Ideally, I would retain the original 9.1 build and have a new 9.5 build with all plugs already installed…
So can anyone assist in regard to those two questions?
    Thanks much.
    Dennis

I cannot see any problems by updating your v9.1 version directly.
If you don’t want to take this “risc”, just install the v9.1 from the disc and update it to v9.5.
As this will not delete your old v9.1 you will not loose anything.
After this you can copy over your customized layouts and plugins to the v9.5 folder.

    Kind regards,

Just copying the whole 9.1 tree to make a 9.5 tree and then running the update on that will work fine also. And all plug-ins and so forth will already be intact. However, as usual with updates, if you choose to keep your old prefs and layouts, you might miss a few of the new additions. But I haven’t noticed anything major in that regard with 9.5.

the updated spline tools, such as bevel and chamfer, will not load properly, you would need to change them in your layout

Right, and a couple other things like some of the new area light types…

I haven’t seen a list, but I agree it would be useful. Some of my dual-screen layouts have taken many months to customize (which is probably pretty common among most users), so I’d rather add in the few missing items as I bump into them rather than start from scratch. As long as I don’t experience any unexplained crashing, I’m apt to stick with my existing layouts. So if you find a comprehensive list of the updated layout differences between 9.1 and 9.5, I’d be interested in adopting those changes.
