[walter biscardi] “Once Apple fixes the annoying things and completely overhauls the Media Manager, then I’ll start dreaming of the little things that would make FCP a more efficient interface.”
I couldn’t agree more… that and being able to reconnect render files with a little bit better frequency…

I just got around to finally taking it (it’s now a requirement before taking the Certified Trainer program). I had been approved for the Certifed Trainer program some time ago, but they instituted this change before I got around to taking the classes.
I agree with the comments from the others. It’s actually a well designed exam… there are usually more than one answer that sounds right, but obviously only one right one. If you’re new to FCP you could easily end up missing a lot of questions. Even though you can miss 15 questions and still pass, I think winging it will not work… and just having the book handy won’t do it either. I got a 99%, but I’ve been teaching FCP for 4 years.
As for the comment about teaching… if you’re doing that, the end user certification isn’t going to make a difference… the only thing that will set you apart is the “Certified Trainer” designation… and I know a lot of very knowledgeable people who didn’t bother getting that.
Personally, I’m glad they made the end user exam a pre-req for the Certified Trainer course… there were way to many people being less than truthful about their experience level and getting into the Trainer course. Many of those would have been culled when they failed the end user exam and been kept out of the program…

[Chris Babbitt] “Not only is Compressor slow as molasses, but I can’t seem to get a decent looking MPEG-2 encode using VBR.”
I haven’t had an opportunity to look at this yet, but you’re the third person who has said this… it would be nice if this got fixed…

[Godfrey Pye] “If you are interested, they certainly work on the Tascam FW-1082, another excellent surface.”
Unfortunately, the Tascam can’t be considered. It was a big mistake on their part requiring firewire instead of midi. Anyone with something like and AJA Io can’t use the Tascam. Adding a firewire card solely to accomodate it is out of the question, since those slots are being used for HD card and SATA disk array…
It’s a nice product otherwise…

Does the jog-shuttle work? What about the transport buttons? Earlier reports had these not working. If those work, I’m buying one immediately…

You definitely have some issue here, because we have done this several times… including a 4 disk RAID zero today. Are all the discs the same type and size?
You may need to reinstall Tiger if you can’t get this worked out…

[John Foley] “I unloaded my two drive RAID system before installing Tiger, but amazingly, it was still active when I booted up after the install.”
Same here… upgrading to 10.4 did not cause the loss of my RAID either (SATA raid 0).
