Issues fixed yet
Posted by Michael Belanger on July 19, 2005 at 6:45 pmHi all
Many of us have held back for quite awhile before upgrading to fcp 5 (5.02) and the latest version of tiger because of all of the issues (ie bugs in fcp and the like)
Can anyone say the storm has passed? Also, it has been reiterated time and again that a clean install is the best way to go , is that still the general concesus?mike b

July 19, 2005 at 6:48 pmTo early to tell but it looks like the scaling issue with stills imported from PS might have been squashed. Just not sure yet.

July 19, 2005 at 7:14 pmOtherwise I assume most are relatively happy with Tiger. I am in a lull and can make the move but as you can imagine don’t need the headaches especially considering the fcp upgrade doesn’t really deliver any new meaningful upgrades.

July 19, 2005 at 8:19 pmWorking for me. Still dont understand Compressor 2 though. Sap spills from trees faster than Compressor.

July 20, 2005 at 4:39 amThere are lots of things to like about FCP 5, but if you work with still photos allot then you should know that you will lose high quality RT in the timeline Sequence. Instead, no matter how powerful your computer is, you will need to render a still image just to see it at full rez. No olive colored line above stills is available, only bright green and a proxy image that is low rez.
The latest update does not change this. Sorry.

July 20, 2005 at 5:36 amNot only is Compressor slow as molasses, but I can’t seem to get a decent looking MPEG-2 encode using VBR.

I haven’t had an opportunity to look at this yet, but you’re the third person who has said this… it would be nice if this got fixed…

July 25, 2005 at 2:15 pmWe were having the same problem with Compressor 2 running extremely slow after an upgrade. However, after we installed the patches released a couple weeks ago, Compressor is back to running at “normal” speed.
