I had a host of issues with the K3 until I disabled the desktop function. Livetype and keying in particular. Later versions of QT, FCP and OS X seemed to help. I have not gone to 6.0.4 and 10.5.4 because I’m afraid to mess with a system that finally worked…

I know this won’t help, but one of the best things about AJA is that they don’t release things until it’s ready. Having been through hell recently with the FCP 6.0.3/QT 7.4.5 and the temporary loss of some K3 functionality, I really appreciate their approach…

While it’s a promising codec, let’s not forget that the difference was visible in the Apple booth at NAB when they introduced it. Artifacting in the sky was visible. Now, am I beating up on it… no, but the notion that it has all that compression and no reduction in quality is right up there with “perpetual motion”… not possible.
Like Walter, I think ProRes will be huge at some point, but for those of us that need to get work done now, many of us are still using DVCpro HD. I’ll let those with more free time and patience continue to beta test ProRes…

I’m going to second Walter’s thoughts. I like ProRes and I really want it to work (badly actually), but it’s clear that people keep reporting issues with it. DVCPro HD has given us zero problems and we down-convert from it all the time on an LH and a K3…

It doesn’t work with both interlaced and progressive, which we found a deal-killer limitation. We also weren’t happy with the quality.
The new Instant HD Advanced works with both and apparently has much improved up-res. It unfortunately works with AE only! They say they will have an FCP version, but don’t know when. In the meantime, it would be nice if everyone hammered them with requests so they know we’re interested.

Good call Gary. When I do this, I down convert first, then add the graphics made for SD… it’s the only way I’m happy. Personally, I don’t think this is a K3 problem, I think that you’re going to want to do it that way no matter what hardware you use…

There are no problems with P2, but there are a hell of a lot of problems with QT 7.4.5 and FCP. LiveType doesn’t function properly, nor do most of the Keying programs, including FCP’s. You know things are serious when Apple actually responds to your Feedback Report.
QT 7.4.5 is absolutely the worst thing Apple ever foisted on us. I would use QT 7.5 and run like hell from 7.4.5 id you want a functioning FCP system.
