JoePM,
I believe your problem will be solved with upgrade, Canon cameras have always
required special treatment in their relationship with FCP (firewire, external hard drives. etc.).What I’d like to ask you is your experience with editing HDV considering you are only
on G4.
I’ve read many threads on Cow where people are discounting editing in native HDV as
that was very “processor intensive bacause of long GOP structure”.
In the same time, I know that “official” stand is actualy to stay in HDV, one of those is this one:https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/when_to_stay_native.html
I’m currently sitting on the fence (eyeing XH A1 for some time now) regarding HDV.
I wonder what is your experience with HDV, what is your workflow further from FCP,
exporting to compressor, to MPEG 2 for DVD or…
Secondly, are you happy with XH A1, any suggestions?I’d appreciate any thougts you can share along these lines, thanks.

Just to confirm; you think Motion is OK on ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 with 64 MB VRAM?Thanks

What’s a “regular Super Drive”?
One that is not Super Drive DL?My G5 is 2.3 MHz, dual processor, that series was the first one wirh Dual Layer Super Drive
preinstalled.
You are right, that one was burning only DVD + DL (in addition to both DVD-R and DVD+R,
abd +RW and -RW).
I don’t know what burners are in Intel machines.Mick

I remember your posts from that period, advising on comparison of HVX200 vs Canon XH A1…
Not only the archiving, but the aquisition is a nightmare.
It’d wotk for so narrow group of projects, ano not work with anything what requires long
sessions of recording (complete event video industry, some docos etc.)Secondly, to have it working, one should have another person just for transferring footage
on the field and additional gear (laptop, hrad drives).
Well, if you’ve got money for 20 P2 cards you might be OK.This workflow is so much more expensive than anything else in this ball park,
that I never could =understand scuh hype about it.I doubt that anything can beat a tape and a Firestore combination.
Tape for archiving and Firestore for DTE.Mick

< inserted a DVD-r dual layer>
The correct media should be DVD + R DL,
not (-), and not DVD-R.Try iDVD, and see is it working there (if you’ve got correct media).
If yes, then you can narrow down the problem to DVD SP,
or to your workflow (like checking all the right boxes etc).Secondly, was it a DV project, or…?

David,
Check your individual clips if they were indeed 48.000 KHz,
or were they maybe 48.012 or some wierd number like that.Happened to me once long time ago, don’t remeber what caused it,
chenged those figures back to 48.000 KHz and no problems. It was only handfull of clips affected, so you might ne lucky
as well, if this happens to be your problem eventually.I think that I attributed this problem to my Canon / Firewire / Hrad Drive issue,
not sure.Mick

Boakadu,
Don is right, take it to a service, 2 years is about right time for their tape transport system
to get serviced.
If you were lucky, you might get away just with cleaning (by a professional of course),
if it’s worse, then you’ll have to have it replaced.
This issue was discussed not that long ago, see this post completely:https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/59/856464
