DVD burning
Posted by Kev’s Pics on October 29, 2007 at 6:08 pmHi,
I have just finished editing a project in FCP and want to burn it to DVD, it is 4.9gb so I inserted a DVD-r dual layer and ticked all the relevant boxes.
I keep getting the message “insert correct blank media”
Every time I do this it ejects the disc??Any ideas please?
Cheers
Kev.

October 29, 2007 at 6:11 pmWhat computer?
What burner?What DVD authoring program?
Is this just a back-up of files, or do you want to burn a standard DVD to play in a DVD player?

October 29, 2007 at 6:20 pmWhat’s doing the authoring/encoding/burning? Maybe you should try a forum for that software?
All the best,

October 29, 2007 at 7:16 pmHi, thanks for your replies,
I’m using Final cut studio 2 on a mac pro,
I exported to compressor and authoring using DVD studio pro.
The project is a wedding for a friend, shot on sony z1, edited in HD and output to compressor as SD.
I have also noticed that although I have set chapter markers in FCP they don’t seem to be there in DVD studio pro, or am i missing something? Thanks

The correct media should be DVD + R DL,
not (-), and not DVD-R.Try iDVD, and see is it working there (if you’ve got correct media).
If yes, then you can narrow down the problem to DVD SP,
or to your workflow (like checking all the right boxes etc).Secondly, was it a DV project, or…?

+R we only used for our old DVD Recorder.

Do you have a Dual Layer burner? A regular SuperDrive is not a dual layer burner.

October 30, 2007 at 1:52 amWhat’s a “regular Super Drive”?
One that is not Super Drive DL?My G5 is 2.3 MHz, dual processor, that series was the first one wirh Dual Layer Super Drive
preinstalled.
You are right, that one was burning only DVD + DL (in addition to both DVD-R and DVD+R,
abd +RW and -RW).
I don’t know what burners are in Intel machines.Mick

I stand corrected. The Mac Pro has a +R DL designation. We’ve never burned a dual layer disc so I wasn’t aware that they had started putting dual layer burners in the machines.
But it looks like +R DL is required for the dual layer.

November 2, 2007 at 10:01 pmHi Kev,
You say your file size is 4.9GB that is to large for a standard DVD, you need to get it under 4.7GB
