Thanks Walter,
Why the choice of DVCProHD?
I’m just trying to get the complete workflow in my head (still on DV)
before I jump and buy Canon XH A1, heard/read many people
complaining about HDV.
Do I need an MXO (cheapest way to go) to monitor HDV as well?
So far I’ve learnt that my current Firewire 800 drives will be OK for HDV.Am I missing something here?
Thank you
Mick

Walter,
Sorry for interjecting, are you trying to say that you can capture HDV into HDV
timeline and then just send it to compressor for a regular DVD-5 (SD – DVD).
(you mentioned HD, HDV and DVCPro HD, so I’m a bit confuesd there)Thanks

Thnks for your reply Jerry,
I’m currently using Canon cameras and Panasonic MiniDV tapes (and Firestore but often
shoot is longer than FS-4s capacity). I’ve had trouble playing Sony tapes on Canon cameras,
probably because of the lubricant Sony is using.
Can I start a new Sony camera with Panasonic tapes amd that way avoid my problem?
Or the lubricant is in the camera itself (not only in tapes).Cheers

March 16, 2007 at 10:05 pm in reply to: mini-dv capture now suddenly loses sync, why? There is no reason why shouldn’t you use your GL2 for import,
actually it’s advisable as the tape was recorded on that camera (as someone already pointed
out that you might encounter problems by playing tape in different camcorder).
We are using two GL2 cameras for years and we are capturing from them without
problems.
We do use Firestore drives to avoid capture completely, but still 30 % of our
production requires capturing from a tape and GL2.Mick

February 12, 2007 at 8:39 am in reply to: Canon XL-H1 capture and monitor playback not workingShane,
Will you keep us posted please, re your experience with XL-H1 and HDV?
I’ve been observing the HDV and a little Canon for some time,
and got a feeling that things are not as clear as it seems.Currently still on DV, but geting ready to jump, HDV looks
like most interesting solution, at least cost wise,
minimum hardware upgrades needed.Would I avoid capture pitfalls by using a Firestore?
Thank you

Very possible, right out of Power Point, export as Quick Time movie,
then import that video into FCP.
If you’re using PC version of Power Point you might not be able to do
it directly.Mick

I intend to install one Apple TV box in our shop to load up with demo movies
I was hoping to do the same, but what is the quality, I assume that’d be the
same like making video for iPod, H.264.
How does that look like blown up on you 32″ or 40″ plasma?Mick

looking forward to the Apple TV
I’m a bit disapointed, expected it to be more video inclined.
For example, streaming our movies (QuickTime or MPEG2) to a TV.
Movies that people create, professionals or home movies. They are talking all the time about downloaded movies, from iTunes,
or I’m missing something here?Mick

I’ve been delaying an upgrade (crossgrade) to 5.1 from my FCP 5.0.4 for the reason you mention.
Read many posts here about 5.1.2 and a MacPro and all sorts of bugs.Has anyone reported anything similar on a Power Mac G5 (dual core 2.3 MHz, 2 Gig RAM, Mac OSX 10.4.6)?
I’m considering a purchase of a Mac Book Pro, and for that environment I know that both
machines should be on 5.1.2.
Currently, everything works flowlesly, do I have any reason to worry? Thanks
Mick
