    Hey Greg,

I love the footage I just put in my order for my 160. Can you tell me what “cheap feeling” switch gear you are talking about?

    Hey Matt,

If you use more than one computer to render any files through qmaster, the media will need to be copied over to the additional computers to be encoded also. You can change your shared cluster storage, this is where it will put all temporary files.

  • Actually I am sure it was a motion 3 template. I created some some lower third templates in motion 4 on my mac pro, a while ago, for a client and his older Power Mac. To create the motion 3 templates I used a method that Mark Spenser pointed out on his Web site I just made sure that I did not use any motion 4 features.

HOW TO OPEN MOTION 4 PROJECTS IN MOTION 3
“Yes, you can open a Motion 4 project in Motion 3. It’s actually quite easy:

    1) Launch TextEdit
    2) Choose File > Open, navigate to the Motion 4 project file, and open it.

It opens in TextEdit and looks like this:

    3) Change version=”4.0″ to version=”3.0″
    4) Save

That’s it! Your Motion 4 project will now open in Motion 3. Of course, any Motion 4 features, such as reflections, shadows, depth of field, or new behaviors won’t work, but all Motion 3 features should work fine. ”

I moved the old templates out only. And sure enough the blue issue is fix. I opened up the templates in motion 4 and resaved now I have them back as master templates for Final Cut Studio 3 and my Final Cut Pro X works perfectly.

Hopefully that info helps you out Jon. I love your tools!

  • Jon,

I found those files I used Secrets to show all hidden files. Cleaned out the ones you suggested. The Problem persisted. I then received an email from a user on the Apple Forum, who after talking to apple care found a fix then it stopped working again.

    “Mikey

ok, rang the Apple support team and we spent a good 45 minutes deleting loads of stuff. We tried deleting the .plists, starting with the final cut pro ones and then the rest but that had no effect, so put them all back.

Then, after moving (well moving to a new temp folder) the entire contents of username/library/application support – EXCEPT for the SyncServices folder – a log out then login and open FCPx it worked … hussar!!!

Put all the other bits back into the application support folder and most things worked fine, not all but most. So not too pleased as various bits of my ID prefs had gone but at least FCPx was working.

However, today it is back to the blue screens again.

This is getting very silly, I can’t finish a simple 10 minute family film.

Will try apple again tonight after work.

    🙁

    Disgruntled goat …”

I am trying to figure out if it stopped working because he put something back in. I am really confused I don’t think it is some other software simply because it works fine on another computer. I remember when Final Cut 6 or 7 came out you couldn’t use master templates if you had the original Colorista installed until they updated it I had to uninstall it.

I am at a loss for this.

  • Jon,

Looking at the John Warner’s log it looks almost identical to mine. But I have uploaded my crash log,

    2505_finalcutpro20110702004725mikeysmacpro.crash.zip

Any help would be great. I’ve been talking to Apple about this also.

David The 4870 works great in that macpro. I know thats the one I have. But I have since (about a month ago) I switch out the the 5870 and I will tell you going from the X1900 to the 4870 was a jump up. But when I went to the 5870 with the 1GB of video ram, it really screams. Motion runs really smooth with multiple particle emitters and effects. FCPX is also running really snappy. Although I find the constant background rendering a speed suck, So I have my turned off but its really freaking fast. Hope that info helps.

  • I too am having this problem on my MacPro. My laptop is fine but my MacPro is having this issue. I created a new user account but I would really like to use my main user account. I did a crash analyzer.

This is what it gave me.

    User Interface Crash

This crash was caused when trying to draw or interact with a user interface element. A common cause for this crash is a corrupt or outdated version of the ProKit or BrowserKit frameworks, but in some cases it may be a Final Cut Pro bug that should be reported to Apple. Users sometimes get this error if they upgrade their OS without reinstalling Final Cut Studio or if their HIToolbox preferences are corrupt.
    Suggested Actions

Use FCS Housekeeper to run a Comprehensive clean.
Make sure you have the latest versions of Final Cut Studio and related frameworks, particularly ProKit.
    Trash preferences.
    Report the bug to Apple.
As a last resort, consider reinstalling Final Cut Studio.

    I can’t find com.apple.AppKit

and I have even done its suggestion of running FCS Housekeeper. Still no luck. IF someone figures it out please let me know

June 12, 2011 at 1:57 pm in reply to: Authoring Blu-Ray out of Final Cut Studio.

The Share command in Final cut by default if only a DVD Burning is present it wants to make an AVCHD disc – HD quality on a Standard DVD, Plays only in a Bluray player. You can fit about 20 min of HD content on an AVCHD disc you also cap out at 15Mbps as your video Data rate where as with Bluray you can go to 45Mbps.

Now if you use Share and you choose Hard Drive (Disk Image) or if you have a bluray drive connected to your computer and choose that drive, you can produce an actual Bluray disc, I do this all the time. Take it the Menus are very simple but for screener discs this is very useful feature.

The other method you can do is export out a full quality QuickTime video of your movie. Then if you have Toast with the BD plugin you can choose Movie Disc, Then choose Bluray and it will encode your video into either MPEG2 or H.264 which are both supported codecs on Bluray (you need to customize the encoding settings to choose, by default it chooses the mpeg2 encoder settings)

    Hopefully this info helps.

April 16, 2011 at 7:55 pm in reply to: Out of Memory – FCP 6.0.6

Your image is to large for Final Cut Pro. There is a physical limit to the image size. No more than 4000X4000 or no more than 16,000,000 pixels. Otherwise you will get that out of Memory Error everytime. I would suggest doing your Panorama shot in After Effects, I think even Motion will not be able to render out your image.
