my experience is that software apps can recover small files OK, although their original names are gone. Larger files like video often get defragmented and then cannot be recovered.

No, FF your camera and verify that you are at the end of the tape, then rewind a bit to see the footage you missed. Finding the break can be tough.

I am betting on broken timecode on the tape…your footage is there, but finding it can be tough. FF to the end of the tape visually, then rewind.

Put a black video (File>New>Black Video) clip above both your clips and fade it in or out.

You can capture using your TV card but only with the software that came with it. I doubt Premiere can edit the stuff though and even if it could, the resulting quality would be poor. Your card is a toy.
Most DV camcorders can take an analog signal from your VHS player and convert it on the fly to DV, using Premiere’s capture window via firewire.
Then you can edit and export with better results.
If you dont have a DV camcorder, then an A/D converter like ADS Pyro ($150 @ B@H)can do the same job within Premiere. -
On my PCs every type is visible when choosing the default “All supported Types”… .mov, .psd .wmv .avi .mp4 to name a few, including .prproj

Most DV camcorders will convert firewire output from Premiere to analog. Dont have an old DV camcorder to tie up, get an A/D converter like ADS Pyro A/V link ($150 at B and H).

What are the properties of your source video? How long is your video?

Apparently it is still screwing you up, try disabling it in Device Manager…you can always enable it when you need it.

I dont have either installed. Libguide is not part of Windows or Adobe. Find it, examine its properties for a clue to the vendor. Uninstall any Black Magic software.
