Movie Maker captures as DirectShow Type 1, Premiere needs type 2. Download a trial version of ScenalyzerLive and try that.

1. In Premiere choose Window>Workspace>Restore default workspace.
2. Delete Premiere’s Preference file; hold the Shift and Ctrl keys down, launch Premiere till it fully loads.
3. Change the vertical position settings on your monitors using the buttons on the front so you can see the black area below the desktop looking for something minimized. -
Device Control is mostly a Windows function that Premiere taps into. The fact that Movie Maker is having trouble indicates a possible operating system issue or hardware (camera, firewire cable, firewire card) problem.
Try this; in Device Manager, remove the firewire card, reboot and let Windows Reinstall the drivers. -
Dragging the yellow time remapping rubber band down to 1% will freeze the video.

You need to eliminate either the camera or the PC as the culprit. Try your camera on another PC or another camera on your PC.

There are no Presets in the Export Movie option. Choose the Media Encoder, Quicktime as the Format, H264 as the Video Codec and the the Preset of your choice.

After launching the encoder, hit Enter. If you are presented with a Save window, the encoder is there albeit hidden, possibly stuck in the task bar or in a dual monitor system on the bottom of the other monitor.
