captured video problem
I recorded my avi file directly to Dell Inspiron laptop by connecting my XM1 camera via firewire. Laptop is running Vista. I then copied the file to my desktop. but when I try to import the file into premiere (two different recordings actually), premiere freezes on one with the import bar blank, and on the second file, it sees teh movie as 42 secs, when the full length is approx 30mins.
Someone else had similar problem in this forum, and he fixed ot by changing his codec. My codec says DV AVI, amd I used widnows movie maker in vista to capture, as Premiere Pro did not capture on my Vista laptop.
Although I used Movie Maker to capture on the laptop, I cannot import the movie into premiere either. The codec on the laptop says DV PAL.
i am willing to change the codecs. Can anyone please tell me what to do, and which codec to install.

Movie Maker captures as DirectShow Type 1, Premiere needs type 2. Download a trial version of ScenalyzerLive and try that.
