  • Frame holding with Time Remapping?

Posted by Mark Weaver on July 6, 2008 at 7:08 pm

    Hello all,
A quick question. I have been playing with the time remapping
feature in PPro while working on a home video and I can’t figure out
how to make it hold a frame. I’m trying to get a clip to play a
lead-in, stop on a frame for 5s, then play the lead-out.
This doesn’t seem possible with the time-remapping feature.

I know how to do it in AE, but all the clips were easily accessible
in PPro and I was trying to learn it.

Anybody know how to do this?

    Thanks

Export a frame and put it during 5 sec on the right postion in the timeline.Don’t forget to put flicker removal on the still frame.

    Good luck

Well dang that is obvious. I just didn’t put it together.
Too bad that time remapping won’t stop the video, but your
    solution should work.

    Thanks!!!!

Dragging the yellow time remapping rubber band down to 1% will freeze the video.

    Mike,
I initially tried your suggestion, but unfortunately 1% is not
frozen video. At 30fps, in a little over 3 seconds(100frames),
a new frame is generated. Since I am trying to stop the frame for
5 seconds, I get at least one frame begin generated. Since this
is time remapping multiple “between” frames are generate and I get
a real slow motion look, but definitely not stopped.

    Mark,

There are a couple ways of doing what you want. Try this one:

    1. Place your clip in the time line
    2. Place the timeline marker on the frame you would like to freeze
    3. Cut your clip at that frame
    4. Right click on that frame and choose “Frame Hold”
    5. Choose the “In” frame option

depending on how much video you have after your cut will depend on how long you can display your freeze frame.

    6. right click on you clip again and choose “speed/duration”
    7. un-link the two options by clicking the chain link
    8. enter 5 secs for you duration

If you get a flicker in your freeze frame, you may want to right click on the freeze frame clip again and go into the “field options” and choose “flicker removal”

    I hope this helps.

    Fritz,
Thanks for the idea, I was hoping that the time-remapping
feature would allow this “Stopping” of video. Before cut a clip,
holding a frame and using the speed in Premeire, I would just
go into AE and use the Time remapping in it. You have a good
idea if I didn’t have AE. It just really stinks that Time
remapping in Premeire can’t stop on a frame.

Oh well… Thanks for the idea.
