Try changing the zoom of the Program window from Fit to 100%. You might not see much of the image, but it should be sharp.

Do your Sequence settings match the Properties of your source video exactly? Is there a red (needs rendered) line just below the Work Area bar in the timeline?

I think you missed 24 bits of data for each pixel * 921,000 pixels per frame= 22 MB per frame

All the old legacy QT codecs are still there including sorenson. There is no Preset, but on the Video Codec tab in the AME is a drop down list.

Editing Mpeg files is typically problematic. Suggest converting your source video to DV first. Drop an entire clip on the timeline and Export> Format= Microsoft AVI, Preset= PAL DV. Then import that for editing.

You probably lost your CFA (Conformed Audio) files.
Premiere might be trying to re-conform them, but this might take a while. Open your project and note a progress bar in the lower right corner of the interface. -
Previewing interlaced footage on a computer monitor is fraught with problems, especially during high motion. If your target is DVD, then preview on a TV.
Firewire is simply data transfer and I doubt your issue involves that. -

That wont work because the uninstall will leave the plug-ins there.
You will need to locate these on your MAC (I am not a Mac person). There are over 200 plug-ins in the folder. -
If you are planning to go from HDV and export as SD you can expect a quality hit as Premiere (and most NLEs) do a poor job of deinterlacing. You wont be able to accurately preview this during editing.
Make sure “Use Maximum Render Quality” is checked in the AME wing menu and be prepared to wait very long.
