    You will need to capture the files using Premiere. The capturing app wraps the DV file with a header designating the codec. Your PC does not have the correct codec.

    The encoder in Premiere 6.5 is pretty dated and not as good as the current version. If your movie is less than 45 minuted, go for 7 mbps CBR preset.

    There is a number of DVD camcorders that capture video directly to DVD inside the camera. Many folks who inadvertently buy these should be willing to sell cheap as editing is a bit of a challenge. One of these could be connectd to your cam via A/V cables and burn vid from your cam in real time, although the DVD cam will need “Analog in” feature.

    Use headphones and/or turn off your PC speakers, you are probably getting feedback.

    Best settings for what target? For local playback 2 mbps at same frame rate and resolution as original should give you DVD quality video, make sure Deinterlace is selected in Pre-encoding tasks.

    After pushing the bunch to the right, they are still selected until you deselect them or accidentally hit the Delete key and delete the bunch. Try opening an archived version of your project (Pro saves 5).

    Suggest a process of elimination;
    Will your cam connect OK on another PC?
    Does another DV cam connect OK on your PC?
    Does Device Manager SEE your cam in Imaging Devices?
    Try another firewire cable?

  • Do you have another app running that is connected to the firewire circuit?

  • Do you have any other firewire devices attached to the PC?
    Is your Project Preset DV- NTSC? Is the Capture Format (Project settings) DV/IEEE 1394 capture?
