  • Excellent! Thank you John! That’s just the kind of info that I needed to know. I think it’s the fact that Vegas is rarely mentioned among editors that I began questioning it myself. Kind of like when I was a photojournalist years ago and I’d be at a big event and be the only Minolta shooter among all the Nikon and Canon shooters. My Minolta did everything their cameras did but I always felt like the weirdy in the group. Thanks again!

Thanks Dwaine. Between your info and the config guide I’m now reading I think I’m all set. Great forum. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply Peter. I will definitely check out the config guide you mentioned. The main thing really is that I’m just a bit confused about GPU’s, GUI’s, CUDA, etc. Is the GTX 580 just a graphics card like what I already have except for that it’s a different brand? Am I correct in saying that what I need to run Resolve is the CUDA feature and that feature only comes with certain brands of graphics cards such as the one you mentioned?

Can you give me a dummy’s guide to Resolve Hardware in a paragraph and just explain what it is that I need and why? I’m really not that dumb…just when it comes to computer hardware. Thanks!

Hi William, I’m the guy that started this original thread two years ago. Since the time of posting that thread I’ve since gained a lot of experience and knowledge and I would say to you that Vegas is great for editing all kinds of projects. Definitely edit in parts as John says and then simply bring all your “nested” parts together at the end when you’re ready to render. If you have more questions just ask!

Greetings Matthew. My workflow is similiar to yours in that I work on 3-5 minute “scenes” with my master project usually 1-2 hrs long. I had a dual core, 2.55ghz, with 4gb of RAM and had all sorts of trouble rendering out my master projects. I added 4 more gb of RAM and no more trouble. So I suggest adding more RAM for starters.

Just this week though I’ve been trying to render out a 2 hr. HD project as an uncompressed Quicktime and I’ve had lots of “errors” and very long render times. Never did get it so I settled for an uncompressed AVI which rendered out fairly fast.

For my last film I used a Zacuto EVF with my GH2. The EVF has a digital zoom focus assist feature. Through the use of a homemade bracket and an old manual shutter release cable I was able to rig it up so that I could quickly and easily trigger the focus assist with my right hand finger while keeping my left hand on the lens. It worked great.

I use a Metabone adapter which works fine. When you use an adapter you will lose the ability of the camera and lens to communicate…which means no auto focus. It also means that you will have to use lens with the older manual aperture ring in order to adjust the lens’ f-stop. I don’t really recommend the stock panasonic lens that comes with the camera if you’re planning to shoot seriously.

My camera, lens and such are now on Ebay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Panasonic-GH2-Digital-Camera-ZACUTO-EVF-and-custom-cage-PACKAGE-/120817049123?pt=Digital_Cameras&hash=item1c2141de23

I’ll probably end up Ebaying my GH2 so my price is whatever I can get. If you got the money make me an offer. My lens are Tokina 24-70 2.8 and 80-200 2.8 in Nikon mount with an adapter. I highly recommend Tokina.

I shot a 50 minute mini-movie this summer so I had another person recording audio using my Marantz 661 with a Rode NTG 3. For what you’re wanting to do I recommend the JuiceLink as Jason said. Cheesycam.com has some recently posted videos all about them.

For support I have a custom cage which is little more than a handle on both sides that I can attach accessories to including my Zacuto EVF which is mounted above the camera on the left side. I made a custom bracket for the EVF and with the use of a manual shutter release cable mounted on the right handle I can actually use my right hand to activate the “focus assist” feature on the EVF by pushing the release cable button. It works great to quickly check my focus without having to take my left hand off the lens.

Get a good tripod with a bowl for quick leveling. An inexpensive jib works wonders also.
