So what would be a hyper-cardioid mic that’s equivalent in price/performance to a Rode NTG3?

A Rode NTG3 is what I have experience using. I’ve recorded several large projects but up to now haven’t tried to use any mic other than the one mentioned and a lav a few times.

It’s a 6 person camping tent which will have 5 kids in it. I may end up cutting the top out for better access. Can’t try anything yet till I get the tent.

I hadn’t thought about the fabric’s stiffness. “Skillful” audio recording is still a bit of a mystery to me but fun to learn.

THanks for the help. Making 3 separate tracks makes sense. I was confused because it’s called “a” DME track…as in one track.

So you’re saying I wasn’t going about it the right way? What’s weird is that my ‘lasso twirling’ worked perfectly on all but one particular project. I will always remember “replace” in the future!

I finally figured it out for those who care to know. After I right-click on the media thumbnail in the media bin instead of clicking “recapture offline media” if you instead click “Replace” then you can go find the file in question and select it. You then have the media “recaptured”.

Still don’t know why the other way isn’t working but glad I was able to get my project up and running!

Thanks for that link Rick! I guess I’m not the only one wanting a DIY Ice Light. lol.

After further research I’ve decided to buy a Lowel ID-Light- https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/185678-REG/Lowel_ID_02_ID_Light_100W_Focus_Flood.html

The Frezz Sun Guns that Todd mentioned are all high dollar HMI lights. The Lowel is dimmable, focus-able and can run off batteries. Thought I’d mention it in case anyone else reads this wondering what to get.

I don’t think he would have used the Ice Light on that photo in question as that light puts off a much larger and softer light. They promote it as “having window light anywhere you go”. I’d like to have one but not for $500. I have a $25 Craftsman work light that’s of similar design that I plan to modify a bit to get similar results.

Not sure why you think his gear is interesting. It’s all pretty standard lens for wedding/portrait still photography. Thanks for the replies. I love this forum!

Yeah Todd, I wanted to kill myself the first time I saw his work. I’ve learned a lot from watching his videos. He actually teamed with Westcott and designed his own LED light called an Ice Light which is pretty sweet but pricey.

In response to Rick, I agree that the video light was not the most important element in the photo but on the other hand he would not have been able to make the photo quickly without the light. Although it was just a simple light setup it would have been much more difficult and time consuming to have done the same this using a flash unit. Thus my reason for wanting a video light!

Thanks for the reply and the sun gun suggestion. I will look into those. Yes, that guy’s work is pretty amazing. He’s actually regarded as one of the best wedding photographers in the world. Someone else suggested Lowel lights which I’m looking into.

  • Here’s another feature film cut on Vegas to add to your list- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruaUIyrFMMU

Redemption Ride, my first feature (first film project of any kind actually!)
