I’m assuming my issue is I don’t have enough memory / ram for vegas to run well.

I typically edit small veggies, around 5-10 minutes in length. These are my scenes. Then I put these into a master veggie for the whole project.

My master veggies are typically around an hour long. All standard def stuff (I don’t do HD yet).

If I switch windows say to edit a child veggie the whole works typically crashes so I avoid this as much as possible. However, sometimes it’s almost necessary to open a nested veggie.

So I’m curious, how much memory is enough. I have 4 gigs of system RAM. How much do you typically have when your system can handle multitasking with vegas.

And or, are there some virtual memory settings, or any settings for that matter, I can change so it doesn’t crash as much?

I’m learning the ropes of online publishing. Mostly as an excuse to play with more cameras.

Greetings Matthew. My workflow is similiar to yours in that I work on 3-5 minute “scenes” with my master project usually 1-2 hrs long. I had a dual core, 2.55ghz, with 4gb of RAM and had all sorts of trouble rendering out my master projects. I added 4 more gb of RAM and no more trouble. So I suggest adding more RAM for starters.

Just this week though I’ve been trying to render out a 2 hr. HD project as an uncompressed Quicktime and I’ve had lots of “errors” and very long render times. Never did get it so I settled for an uncompressed AVI which rendered out fairly fast.

    I meant I have a quad core.
