I know this is a very old post. Just wanted to add that if you mix on the fly you also need to change your MIX MODE to AUTO.

I’ve been having problems with the same thing. Mine worked when I switched from DF to non-DF time code. See if that works…

In FCP x it’s called ‘Roles’ (that creates the metadata of each individual clip. Good luck (I’m just understanding this as well)

    Thanks,

now try moving that clip that is part of a storyline. It’s just buggers up the main storyline!!!! I heard that the new version of FCP X has fixed this problem and you can now dissolve without making a clip part. Anyone else heard this?

AMEN! I’m struggling to find capability in FCP X. Honestly, if they made this one simple function work, I think a lot of people wouldn’t dismiss the program so much. It’s almost IMPOSSIBLE to navigate the timeline in FCP X. Zooming is like being in a circus. One minute you’re on your clip, the next you’re at the end of your timeline. It’s ridiculous and they need to change it.

If you click on ‘show match frame’ (lower left circle button) in the viewer, it should take you to your clip in the timeline. This is the closest I’ve found to Avid’s reverse match frame.
